Do you want a Cataclysm world event? (Looking back on the Zombie Invasion)

I'm at work right now, listening to old podcasts while I get my work done. Ep # 127 of "The Instance!" is about the Zombie invasion, not long before WotLK launched. I note that there were an awful lot of protests against the Zombie invasion. Most of all, being PvP'd by other members of your own faction (even, on PvE servers) who had become zombified.
I'm a person who didn't get around to joining WoW until about ten months ago. I missed out on the Zombie Invasion. But honestly? I wish I had been around to experience it. I've been present for some similarly cool, unexpected events in other communities. And, while they were annoying to some, they were something out of the ordinary. Something that was a break in the normal routine.
And most of the protesters were doing so based upon the expectation that they would be able to log in at X time and get Y done. In other words... people who might be conditioned to the regularity (mundanity?) of the game, to the point that they view this sort of situation as a
completely bad
thing. Perhaps this says that they are inflexible in some way? Or, perhaps it says that this sort of surprising occurrence
doesn't happen enough
in MMOs in order for people to be willing to deal with them? I personally think that story twists and memorable events are some of the things typically lacking in MMORPGs, which are what make single-player RPGs great.
I'm curious what your thoughts are. And, what you would like to see, pre-launch, for Cataclysm. (If anything)
Imagine Deathwing sightings by people, all over the world. And perhaps, vast swaths of players being injured or killed, in his passing. Maybe, being tossed a great distance simply by the wind of his passage.

There is one coming; the whole 'reclaiming Echo Isles/Gnomer' is part of it; so whether we want one or not is kinda of a moot point heh.

Yeah, but those are quests... and, something we now expect, because we've been informed it's coming.
What about something we don't know about? Something we may not have forewarning on? (But which, we might anticipate if we think about what is going to happen to the world, when Deathwing breaks loose?)
Imagine standing in Thousand Needles, and watching the water level rise. ("Dude! I just caught a blacktip shark!")
Or, would you rather that we do these quests, buy the game, pop it in and then see the new Azeroth? Without anything as unusual occurring this time around?
(captcha code: NE3D1, heh)

During the zombie invasion, a friend of mine joined WoW to see what all the hubbub was about. I was, of course, hoping we could play together in the future. He started his first character one night during the zombie invasion, getting utterly confused and annoyed. Why were other players killing him? What was he supposed to do about gangs of zombies he couldn't defeat? Was that going to happen all through the game? I couldn't explain to him what was going on, since I had only guesses and clues.
When I later found out what it was about, I explained it to him, but he never really wanted to play after that bad experience.
I'd like to see some big things happening. But keep'em outta the starting zones, yeah?

Have any of experienced the tremors occuring around Azeroth?
Replying to Mariah, yes, I've also been experiencing these. I saw this just a bit back, think it's this.
http://www.wow.com/tag/dnd-shaker/
or search it up here on WoW Head, though it doesn't have a pic or anything.
I had no idea this was occurring! And, I play every day, for at least a couple of hours. I'm going to have to watch.
I suspect that the " Shaker monsters" are part of how Blizzard is implementing the pre-Cata stuff, of course. But I also suspect that they never intended for us to be able to detect these... they just want to get people talking about earthquakes.
Hrm... Earthquakes. Wars and rumors of wars... I wonder if Blizzard is going a bit apocalyptic with the cataclysm stuff.

Of course theres going to be a world event leading up to Cata. With a expansion that is going to be a huge change they would be dumb and or lazy not to implement something (but like said above the tremors going around is the first sign) plus they have done a major event in all 'eras' of the game so far. AQ gates opening for Classic, Dark Portal opening for TBC and Zombie Invasion for Wrath. All were epic, only one I didnt get to take full advantage of was the AQ gate one since my undead warrior was only lvl43 at the time, but a group of adventurers saw me trying to make it across ungoro and they helped me out and got me to Silithus just so I could die hundreds of time but it was worth it.

I definitely would love a world event. I'm one of the folks who really didn't mind the zombie invasion all that much. Perhaps they could have some of the outlying towns being randomly attacked by squads of black dragonkin? Or wouldn't it be rather cool to be running across a zone, find the world shaking around you, and then the ground splits open to reveal corrupt fire elementals pouring forth?

I was very surprised and confused to as why the zombie invasion was going on as I did not expect it, and then once I understood wtf was happening I rather enjoyed it! I think it would be great for earthquakes, torrential downpours, earthquakes, fireballs anything would be fun! Great screenshot occurances and maybe even some new achievements? I would definately love to see something occur in the months before!
