Making sure everyone got buffs on them will help the team. Aslong you do not enter a fight who started already, i do not see why not buff your team mates.
Now teamwork and skilled leadership with all people knowing their classes well more important in a bg sure. Also with people who got gear will give them more strenght into certain overwhelming situation which less gear would not made you success.
But as you may say, everything that buffs one skills(the defination of buffs) which does a certain relatives to the up coming challenges, is always a good thing.

Must be a problem with alliance groups. Most alliance players are selfish or don;t know how to work together as a team. yet horde players seem to always buff each other, heal each other and come to one another's rescue in time of need.
Alliance fails at doing all these most of the time.
Take into account why you didn't get buffed from your team buddies.
1. They may not have the proper training for that buff (blame that player for not getting training)
2. They may not have all the buffing addons installed (nor do they want them installed)
3. They may be unaware that people need buffs (ask nicely and you shall recieve)
4. They may have buffed you already and now you are asking for something else (mats costs for certain buffs - stop being indecisive and cheap @$$3$)
5. They may not care to give buffs due to trust and confidence in the team strength
All in all - buff do not entirely make up the group's kick-assery. Working as a team and helping each other is better than any buff and or killing spree.
Now S T H U and play right. - sheesh.

Sounds like he wasn't paying attention to what was going on - probably looking over his talents - and the BG started.

Um, no. Try again.
On my undead warlock, I've been in several BGs where Horde did NOT work as a team. For example, once in WSG the Horde didn't buff each other, didn't work as a team, and no one even tried to defend the flag until Alliance was at 2/3 flag captures. The rest of them were just zerging. (I know WSG isn't the best example, but that's the most recent one I've been in.)

I was in H OK for my daily and i throw kings on everyone, eat some food, druid throws out MotW, priest stands there.
After a few seconds tank pulls and we clear a few packs of mobs.
Tank asks again "hey can i get fort"? Falls on deaf ears.
What do think is worse? A character that wont buff as in the example quoted or a pally that wont change off of crusaders aura even when asked several times?
And not to defend the alliance but the horde can be just as bad as Theodicus' example. Depends on your battlegroup really.

I have actually seen a lot of tankadins use ret. I never understood why until i actually asked. That was like a "I am so smrt" moment on my part.
