My friend and I have been playing MM/Disc (myself being the Disc Priest). We did very well up until we hit 1300 at which point it seemed we basically got 'capped' and stuck at around a 50-50 win-loss ratio and didn't move any higher. We're both well geared with relentless main pieces and wrath off pieces so gear wasn't our problem.
I just felt the setup wasn't working very well even though we had tactics setup in accordance to those arena junkies guides. In
every game
we basically came so close to an initial kill and after that had failed, it would come down to the mana war with drain sting + mana burn etc.
We won as I said before 50% of these mana war matches, struggling against Healer/Warrior teams where the Warrior would always hug me and I could never get more than a couple of mana burns off due to their healer pillar humping and the Warrior stunning me, not to mention myself going oom fast since Warriors these days hit like a truck and have their MS effect. We would get lucky sometimes if we drew the Warrior out into the open and got a fast kill while their healer was out of range but it was rare.
In terms of double dps teams. We would always win if they focused me as I could tank them easy but we would always lose if they focused my partner whilst CC'ing me. Sometimes it came down to a 1v1 situation with me but it was rare. These double DPS teams were nearly always with a Rogue which my Hunter partner seemed to struggle to CC and get out of range with.
Now hes dropped his hunter for 2s with me and we're going to try with Priest/Warrior with his other char see how it goes. I'm
certain
the comp has the potential there as shown on the arena junkies links, its just
very hard to master
, especially when comparing to the most common teams of Warrior/Healer & DK/Healer which IMO are much simpler to play and have
less margin for error
. (Probably going to get shot down in flames for that comment but whatever).
Thats my 2 cents.

Basic strat of disc hunter is to cc healer, nuke dps. Best way to do this is generally a scatter-> trap -> fear -> silencing shot. From a priest pov, you will need to play extremely offensive when the healer is cc'd, meaning a smite spec is best with smite glyph (54/17). Hunter can play either marks or survival, both have their advantages and disadvantages. I'll outline some general strategies as it seems some people are having trouble playing the comp right who have posted.
As a hunter, you main job is to cc properly, getting a full scatter trap on the healer followed by a fear from your priest. To do this, force the healer to come into los by nuking the dps. scatter healer and web/pin the dps simultaneously to avoid him eating the trap. If its a pally heals, make sure sac isnt up. If it's a druid healer, make sure MotW is dispelled to prevent trap resists. If it is a shaman healer, make sure grounding isnt down. If the opposing team has a felhunter, put a hunter's mark on the healer to have your trap a better chance at not being dispelled.
As a priest, your job is to stay alive if being focused, and dps during cc chains with dots, fiend, smite and hfire. Make sure the focus target is fully dispelled during cc chains (sacred shield, hots, shields/poms). Try to use your fear after a freezing trap or when the healer has trinketed.
Basically you have to keep rotating good cc chains until the opposing team runs out of cds and you will win. Hunter priest is NOT a drain team. You shouldn't being burning that much and only against some specific comps or situations.
