If this is "just another Elaus thread which serves little purpose", what sort of threads were you hoping to see in here instead?

Threads that don't just ask a single question and leave it at that. Threads that leave room for arguing/debating, or 'random' threads such as the 'General Sports Thread'.
IMO, just because this is the randomness section, doesn't mean pointless topics should be allowed. If a poster just wants the answer to a question, there is always the Recycle Bin.

My instance ideas.
If only I could write boss fights faster. Yaknow?

Please refrain if possible from using the word "pointless". Part of the problem I'm having is that what I think of as "pointless" is not what many of you seem to think of.

I don't see any reason why a single question precludes argument. There are lots of simple question you can ask that have endless room for debate.

Part of the reason I posted this is because I have a secret suspicion that when people say a thread is "pointless", I think many of them secretly mean "posted by someone I don't like".

Indeed there are some debates that can be started well with single sentences, but most users (I think) tend to see Elaus' threads as Twitter-esque brainfarts. I realize that this isn't a thread about Elaus, but I was just going to get that out of the way.
IMO, pointless threads are ones that are repetetive and serve no purpose. A good example of this would be the "Moo" thread. The only exception to this would be something such as the Rate the icon/sig threads. Although those have their problems as well. Many people *cough*Interest*cough* post simply to increase their post count and post many times. I think these such threads could at least be improved if people didn't post multiple times in a short amount of time AND if they actually explained what they liked or disliked about an icon/sig/etc. instead of merely giving a rating.
Just my .

After using 'pointless' I realised it wasn't a perfect word to use, as it is relative. But, Part of the reason I posted this is because I have a secret suspicion that when people say a thread is "pointless", I think many of them secretly mean "posted by someone I don't like".
As for that, I don't have personal reasons behind using the word pointless, I enjoy seeing healthy debates as I like hearing other people's points of view on topics.
Whenever I used the word Pointless what I meant was, all formal rules aside, if you think about it.
The format of Elaus' (and some other users) threads, just provoke flaming, and are generally intolerated, through the personal views of the majority of Wowhead users. Whether or whether not that is deemed suitable is down to the Administrators.

So what you're saying, essentially, is that
What do you do if you kick someone and they grab your leg?
or
What is the worst odor in the world?
are meaningful questions that deserve threads of their own?
If this is what you're saying, please, and I mean it, explain why because I have no clue. I care for Elaus as much as I care about you, which is none because I know neither of you. I could care less if he wants to create threads, or anyone for that matter, but at least make them somewhat more discussion worthy and indepth. In the majority of threads that are created like this, people either ask a question and never look back at the thread to respond or do it to troll.
Let's not build a straw man, here. :) I make no claim that ALL of Elaus' threads are meaningful, or that all single question threads are meaningful. I'm only saying that "is it a single question" isn't a good way to judge, because single questions like that can be pointless or not. Some other criteria must be used to judge. The question I am posing is, what criteria?
While many of the threads that have caused such a fuss are indeed kind of silly, they're significantly less silly and pointless (in my opinion) than the forum games that I have always made it a policy to leave open. I'd be willing to reconsider that policy, but I suspect a lot of the forum regulars would be upset.

I know. :) But it DOES seem like a symptom of a deeper problem.

I think you're right. But as far as I can tell, all that you're really saying here is that "We don't think Elaus's threads should be here because we don't like them." I think you're right. But that's not a good reason to ban someone or to delete their threads.
When a forum community reaches a certain age, it starts to stagnate. This happens because the regulars start to form cliques, and tend to reject the influence of new blood. It's my job to ensure the health of the community by preventing this from happening.

Basically, Elaus is using Randomness as Twitter. I mean, I don't get
quite
as militant as some, but his threads to get irritating. They clutter up the forum, allowing superior, interesting threads to fade into obscurity. I'm not going as far as to say it's "sickening, forum-ruining horror" but when you look at his topics, most could've easily just been put in the Recycle Bin. That's what it's there for, and that's why it's stickied.
Yet my +1 crazes don't?
