I think the races that live longer then others would have a low furtile rate

On the topic of draenei and nelfs: I'm sure there are a few members (at least) that realize their situation and are going at it "like rabibits."
Hmm, I'm not so sure. Draenei have probably been steadily repopulating since the fall of Shattrath some...40 odd years ago? As for night elves, I'm really not so sure about those being as rampant with reproduction.
R1, I agree, and they likely have longer pregnancies as well.

For the Orc thing... I don't know, I really don't think it would be as accepted(at least not openly), as you all think it would be; consider what the Orc race was like before the Corruption, where if a weakling was born into the clan(depending on the clan), it would be drowned shortly after it's birth. It's possible that it was it more of a 'Don't ask, don't tell' thing instead; it might have changed with the current group, but I could see the Mag'har still reacting with the old ways to it.

Yeah, that's what I thought, at least in the old days. xD Like if a hermaphrodite kid was born, I think they would have killed it. But spartans did things like that, but there also was a lot of gay lovin' going on.
How long do you think a pregnancy for an elf or a draenei would last then? I remember reading in one of the WoW books (can't remember which, the one with Veressa or whoever when she was preggo) that an elven birth was rare. So I think that ties in with what R1 said with them being less fertile or whatever. Maybe the females eggs only release once every few years or something compared to humans which is once a month on average.

CAUTION: May contain TVTropes!
@Lolotea, this is a bit offtopic, but I enjoyed your fanfic! You should repost it on wowhead heh. ^_^Heh. I may do just that. I was afraid that Zeruuah was a big Mary Sue and that the ending was rushed. I'm afraid I couldn't let this one pass without saying, that someone who regards homosexuality in the same catagory as incest and rape needs to get there head pulled out of there backside. While I agree with your assessment, he was trolling. You're giving him attention he doesn't merit.
Back on topic. The difference between night elves and bloodelves are intresting to consider, as there a far fewer of either race in quel'thalas and northern kalimdor, each one you would expect to follow the baby boom thing to re-populate, but from the example given to the stablemaster at stars rest, its obvious such things are present.. but obviously held back for the same reason as anything else regarding this in wow. That was my thought. They're trying to maintain the T rating, which means that anything sexual has to be fairly oblique. I think the races that live longer then others would have a low furtile rateIn
Rise of the Horde
, Restalaan (a draenei) says "Our people are very long-lived, and because of that we do not often have children." While this could be put down to the
immortal procreation clause
, it's also been suggested that it may have been by conscious choice. (On an off note, the Writerium
had a field day
with the immortal procreation clause.) R1, I agree, and they likely have longer pregnancies as well.Gestation usually has more to do with size than with lifespan. My guess would be ten to twelve months for draenei and possibly night elves, five or six for gnomes, and comparable to human for high elves/blood elves.

I'd still say around a year for high/blood elves, because of them being 'evolved' kaldorei.

The presence of sexuality in warcraft is the varient in both societies and the world itself. Warcraft is a medieval based world of fantasy, with many different cultures and beliefs, but none of them go beyond what would be times of might and magic, sword of sorcery based worlds.
In that regard, the presence of things like gay, lesbian or bi communities does not exist in warcraft. Unlike in the real world where people of a sexual orientation can gather in places and meet, that is something that doesn't exist in wow.. I can never remember there being a gay bar in places like booty bay or silvermoon.
As such, well characters in warcraft could be very aware of there desires, the principle of if they would act on them is dependant on the culture they live it, imagine explaning to a tauren or orc 'actully being wanting to sleep down with another male/female of the same sex is just normal' they might not have even considered it before in there culture, since its something not brought to light in there universe.
That of course as with things I said before, is just an excuse by the writers to avoid what they would regard as a sticky issue, and pretend its something people don't think about. That of course is daft, given the vast array of fan fictions you can find online showing just what people think of it.
Oh and, I do often run around orgrimmar or dalaran on my orc shaman blowing the odd kiss and flirt here and there to other hordies. Just something to keep things ticking over.

Here
is what I have had to say, in the past, in regards to people equating fantasy settings with historical eras. (Be forewarned that it may not be entirely work-safe.)

I can never remember there being a gay bar in places like booty bay or silvermoon.I'd argue that the lack of specific locations akin to "gay bars" doesn't necessarily equate to a complete lack of acceptance or identity. It could even be more like what you'll see in some of
Vonda N. McIntyre
's or
Lynn Flewelling
's work—sexual orientation is treated as a non-issue or at least of no great import.

Bingo
.
In my opinion, they're just trying to maintain that T rating with the ESRB. Anything beyond "suggestive themes" (Sentinel Sweetspring's flirting, Moira Bronzebeard getting knocked up) would tip it into M category.
Which, of course, doesn't stop every fangirl ever from 'shipping Asric and Jadaar. And that's just one of the
believable
pairings.

Which, in a game like warcraft, is so much of a selective view by the writers given the 'messages' they send out, one would ask how they can have things like mutilation, undead corpses raised, demonic possession, even things like rape, murder and brutality.. and yet something none offensive as people of the same sex in a relationship seems to be classed and an M rating?

far
more riled over sex than violence. I can't say as I get it, but that's how it is.
Secondly: the
self-appointed moral guardians
are all too quick to have fits at even the slightest implication that any character is anything other than heterosexual. (Then again, they probably have fits at the implication that married hetero couples tend not to sleep in separate twin beds.)
TL, DR: Blizzard caves to the ESRB, which caves to the self-appointed moral guardians, who'd apparently
rather
we see death and mutilation than two guys kissing.

This, so much. It staggers me how violence is more openly available to younger audiences than sex is, and how taboo sexuality
still
is when we can watch people being tortured with much less stigma.

A thought on the Ethereal:
The ethereal don't have a set biological sex, although I suppose they'd end up thinking like a male or a female of another species either way. How to they reproduce, then? I figured that it was similar to the Bith race from Star Wars, they'd search for a mate that they found pleasing - to whatever extent that was - then submit a bit of the mana-energy that makes them up to some kind of institution. After that, said insitution would combine the mana energies and, in doing so, give it sentience.
From there on the mana energies would replicate like cells as the young ethereal ages, causing it to grow.
They might not necessarily reproduce, maybe their ranks are simply increased while more are made naturally in the nether.

Hmm, interesting. Still, their society seems a bit too organized to say they are "randomly produced in the nether" if you ask me. But its certain their origins can be found somewhere within the nether.

The Ethereals could 'bud'; once they reach a certain level of energy, they split in two, creating an original and it's 'clone' for lack of a better term.
