You know despite the pointless derailing that this was sure to cause from those that fail to see the op's point of view, I have to agree with him.
The reason why people hold wow beta in such high regard and discribe it as a golden time in wow is because things were so much more simple then, you Knew which side you were playing, you held your respected faction in high regard and it felt unique, and far more linked to the actual lore.
Now, with belf paladins and draenei shamans, after easy access to things that people had to work for in wow beta to have, even something we take for grated like flying mounts and resilience and even access into raid dungeons, these things have actully made playing wow into something more generic then exciting.
Theres a reason why when I hear the original wow opening theme music it gives me goosebumps, because it makes me think of when I first began wow, and how exciting it was back then.
People make out that having the game made easier is something they prefer, but it loses so much of the magic as a cost to it, and the lore is turned into a thick soup.
+1, agreeing with everything you just said.
While I'm not about one faction having an advantage over the other in certain encounters, this did begin the homogenization we've all grown to love.
And eventually this led to things like allowing players to have both Alliance and Horde characters on a PvP server, which is stupid, IMO. Like taurenmoo812 said, faction loyalty was great in the sense that it really fueled PvP for intrinsic reasons, not just for phat lewtz and mounts.
