you're still a troll, Ulrik.
that's a bit harsh - urlik has made some good posts on this forum and is certainly not a troll.
in this case, he's simply presenting an alternate idea for running heroics - there doesn't have to be only one way to do that, we are talking about heroics. i've actually enjoyed this and the previous arguments on the topic.
anyway, i have tried both of these methods - i used to run in full prot gear and i hated it. chain pulling is not always practical and rage generation is pretty bad when it's not.
then i switched to a method similar to what urlik suggested - i kept old tank gear around (especially block stuff), used dps trinkets + weapon and set up a heroic gear set. it worked pretty well - rage intake was better with the lower level gear and the dps trinkets helped a little. the downside was yet another set of gear to lug around, and i took a bit more damage. it's certainly a valid approach.
but then a few months back porcell made an observation that i hadn't even thought about - the fact that the higher level tank gear actually has quite a bit of strength (i never notice str on my tank gear), and that the higher level dps gear has a decent amount of stamina.
so i tried a new approach - starting with my progression tank set, i started switching in dps pieces (keeping 2pc. T10). i started with trinkets, then weapon (although i'm actually using a
dps axe in my tank set already), then replacing pieces with the least defense rating. i kept going until i was around 535 defense, not worrying if i was slightly above or slightly below.
it's great - rage generation is fine, my dps is MUCH higher now, and i have zero survivability problems. the best part is, i don't need to carry any extra gear around. i would definitely recommend people give it a try. if i get a HoR random, i use my tank gear, but that's about it.
