Define "better," and indicate which problem you're having that your trinkets need to solve.
Not enough information!

Dont know if the xtra 29 SP is worth losing the passive 128mp5 regen of the Solace to get a 5-7k heal every 45sec from the Abacus.
I'm resisting the urge to flame.
Having both Solace's are BiS. I would use Solace & Purified Lunar Dust if your concerns are throughput (Spellpower) and regen (MP5 from both trinkets).

Having both solaces is the best all-around solution there is.
Althor's Abbacus, however, is a Throughput BiS.

Solace and Althor's. for everyday use. Solace and Purified for fights you have mana probs or are barely getting by with your mana CDs.
I used to tote around many different trinkets to help me out on different fights n_n. Just switch em up when you see fit.

Althor's Abbacus, however, is a Throughput BiS.
I haven't worked the out the math, but with the healing proc and the static spell power boost, I would say that is
theoretically
true. If it was a nice big heal on a one minute cooldown
that you could control
, then it would be BiS for throughput. It gets wasted an awful lot when I'm bubbling people, especially pre-bubbling before a pull.
I wish it was an on-use trinket, that would be sweet.

I believe the heal is smart, ie, cast on lowHP targets only, so, although you indeed cannot control it, it shouldn't go to waste that much. And, of course, you mentioned it - the spellpower alone
is
better for throughput. You are eventually on a point you cannot run out of mana on almost every fight, so, Althor's Abbacus actually becomes an option.
Should you be on a point where you run out of mana, solace wins by a tremendous margin.
The OP's situation, than, would be Solace+X. For throughput, Althor's Abbacus, for regen, PLD. You tell us, now. :)
(Even better, use them both! Change according to the fights.)

Someone mentioned the Abacus' heal being wasted while pre-shielding, but since you're Holy you can pretty much ignore that.

Correct, the heal is smart and goes for the person with the lowest health in range of you. However (I should have specified this before), when the person with the lowest health is 95%, most of that heal is wasted. If Blizzard would modify the proc so it only activates at the time of a spell casting
AND
if someone is 60% health or less (or another relevant number), that would be awesome. Maybe also throw in a function that prevents the heal from selecting a pet.

tbh. if the highest person is at 95% chances are you're totally overgearing the fight anyhow and you might aswell just do it nekkid(yes i know, overexagerrating)
although i have to say its quite annoying in arenas, proccing while shielding on our way to burst down nubs or when healing pets after buffing-.-
but on trinkets, easy althor and solace. if you run into problems with regen when getting into hc25 or LK25 considering using pld solace untill you get better gear is a good option.

Am I the only one who hates the OP for having (arguably) the two best trinkets out there right now but isn't sure whether or not to use them?

My guild's pretty generous with loot and everyone gets an equal share of the drops. We're making sure that everybody gets a 277 heroic piece, so everyone stays on a level playing field. Tanking drops seem to be an exception because if we get 5 pieces of heroic tank loot in one night, one or two of the tanks is bound to get more than one piece. It's more or less based on who needs the upgrade most, how their attendance has been recently, and how well they perform. People who tunnelvision and ignore adds or die to stupid things are generally reprimanded.
That said, our raid leader was inspecting me the other day and said "God damn, how did you get such ridiculous trinkets?", to which I replied "you guys just
gave
them to me!" ;)
