Umm... Yes?
Man is finally together as a single culture, and they start to build the greatest society in our 'history' and God destroys it and sets it apart because it didn't idolize him?
Actually, I think it was more along the lines of worshiping man, worshiping ourselves.
And bringing all cultures together sounds great, but I wouldn't imagine it as so.
Someone or some people will sit at the top of the tower and make the decision of they see fit.
It never said it was made to bring peace to the world, peace being acceptance, it was build to give a name to those who built it.
Aka mankind.
Have to ask yourself, who will lead the world from that tower?

What's so bad about venerating our own accomplishments once in a while?
God certainly does it.
I just don't see God as the great unifier. At least, I don't see the point of doing all that he's done when he could've made us unified in the first place.

He could have, but then would we have really
earned
it?
Aye that just leads back into the Free Will thing... which goes away from the discussion at hand.

Unfortunately, if God decides who dies and who lives and has fate written as the guy we were talking to stated, then we really don't have free will do we?
Same thing, longer period of time and more suffering.

This belongs in Randomness.
Only God existed before the physical universe.
God exists outside our conception of time, therefore He has existed forever (as we perceive it) and He has no creator.
He exists without a physical universe (before He created it) because He is not physical, He's a spiritual being.
Everything we can percieve was created by God.
He created all matter and energy
ex nihilo
.
Is there an "outside" of our universe? If not, then that means our universe has no bounds. If so, then we have no way of knowing what exists outside it, if anything at all.
This ^^

What would you religious people think should you be proven 'wrong'?
It's not possible to prove me wrong, and to be honest I'd doubvt your claims if you presented me with 'empirical proof' that I was wrong.
TL;DR: Nothing, as you can't.

It's impossible to prove anyone right or wrong when it comes to religious beliefs; someone could theoretically prove that the Good Goddess and the Hunter or any of the others I believe in don't exist... but I wouldn't care; I would continue to believe in them, as that's part of who I am.
But again, for this thread:
The Big Crunch will come some day heh.

Let's say you believe in God, hooray. Now, should you get to the end of the road, croak it, and be shown there is no God. Again, hypothetical.
Now, what would you say, looking back on your life? Again, hypothetical. That I lived my life to the fullest, following the creeds I follow, and staying happy? Does it matter what's there as long as you live happily? I mean really.

So, you don't have an imagination, fantastic.
Let me put this easily, for people who seem find it difficult to understand simple ideas.
Let's say you believe in God, hooray. Now, should you get to the end of the road, croak it, and be shown there is no God. Again, hypothetical.
Now, what would you say, looking back on your life? Again, hypothetical.
I only ask this because as a very, very strong atheist I still accept I'm not necessarily correct. After all, who knows what's out there? I just don't believe it's God, very strongly! But I know what I'd say if there was a God. "ahh crap. Now what then big man?". Honestly. What would you say, if your beliefs were proven to be incorrect?
And don't come out with all the crap you did before. I'm not questioning your beliefs, because I don't mind what you think. this is just one of thise things purely for interesting discussion, if you can see that far >.<
I'd be dead, so I wouldn't say anything.
Probably be like, well my religion helped me keep my life good and pure (according to my morals) and stopped me from killing myself with drugs/alcohol/STDs, so...

Noble, and worrying for our society that in some people it is religion which keeps morals pure, and not a respect of the body and fellow man xD
It's a combination for me =P I abhor drugs/alcohol to be honest, along with sex outside of marraige not only for religious means but for the problems it brings.
And for the second point, my religion (thus I) believe there is an endless line of Gods, and the new God for a new universe is taken from those who live purely and whatnot. Thus I believe I have a chance to be God, thus I believe something already existed. How can this be? You ask. To be honest, I don't know. It hurts to think about it.
And I believe our understanding of time is flawed, based on if you go the speed of light everything slows down etc etc.
