of course mages stand a chance against other dps. you just have to know how to play them correctly. it sounds like you want a little bit more ezmode than that. go druid.
Its not that i want ezmode its just that i dont want to go into a battleground and come out with 50 deaths.....

When you go into a BG and come out with 50 deaths, it's because you need to practice PvPing and should focus on getting better at that part of the game, not because your class is underpowered.
I assure you a well-played mage can easily contend for top spot on the KB scoreboard at the end of a BG, myself and many other can attest to this from personal experience.

When I said that i didnt mean that i was actually getting 50 deaths, i was just stating that idont want to have a lot of deathsif i choose to play pvp

Yes, and you shouldn't do that with any class, mage, druid, or paladin, if you understand how to play the class well.

After reading all your posts, it really seems that the class you'd want to play is the Warlock
- Caster: check
- Survivability: check ( it even has it's own tank)
- Mobility: Check (Dots, and more dots)
I'm not a big fan of locks, but it really does seem that that's what you're leaning to.

I haven't played WoW in some months and am coming back this weekend. I want to start a new class and want something new. I have not played a caster in any mmo before and was wondering if the Mage is a good start? I want to have good surviablity and will be playing with my cousin (who will probably pick a hunter). I also am going to be doing battleground and dungeons most of my way to 80, is it a good choice? Should I just go hunter? Warlock? If these aren't good choices, whats a good pick? Thanks in advance.
My main is a Paladin btw.
If you are planning on lvling mostly in dungeons, that's what a Mage is for, imo. If you gonna lvl in BG,
don't pick a Mage, period, unless you want to get facerolled on a constant basis. You said you don't like Priests because you don't want to heal. Why not go Shadow from the start? Especially if you want to do the BG/Dungeon combo, Sh Priests are fun, especially in BG's. Just need to be patient at lower lvls.

i came from dk to mage...and it took a while to get used to...u really dont stand in one spot the entire time...especially if you need to kite...however, if you want survivability and DoT's...and u want to wreck in PvP..you should definitely level a warlock...i've never made one because i consider them and rogues to be ezmode chr's, but my mage loathes both of them...
in pvp, you dont really stand in one spot...if u roll frost in pvp, basically u run around casting ice lance at ur target...once u get enough distance or frost nova and blink away(or attack unnoticed)...then ur gonna stand and cast...but other than that its all mobile or you will die
in pve you will have a perma pet in frost, so really u just attack and u can have ur pet tank...if u have him attack first, but you will prob be standing in one spot 90% of the time casting frostbolt over and over and over and over with the occasional ice lance
