thanks for the move.
So yea, Hordeleader-Azgalor, level 13 horde shaman leveling through LFD with no help. New class, new race (except for my DK, but he did Outlands/Northrend which is almost the same as alliance quests... damn homogenization.

unfortunately, people have a REALLY low tolerance for people who are learning the ropes, and basically chew you out if you screw up at all, even if it's just a god-honest mistake.
the age of learning by breaking it is over, you either use the cookie-cutter spec baked by those who know more than you, use the strats, or you GTFO.
it's a sad reality, but the level of tolerance for newbies (newbie=/=n00b) is almost non-existant, and that's unlikely to improve ever, Internet+anonimity=jerk, and that's how most treat the people who try to learn on their own.
I was trying to learn how to DK tank by myself, trying to bake my own spec, my own rotation, the whole stuff back in 3.0.8 and of course as anyone who's starting at something, I screwed up, a lot, and as a result people refused to go with me on a heroic if I was tanking (and this was back on the days where DK's were OP and as such hated more than stephanie meyer and michael moore fused togheter)
so nope, on cata I aint gonna try to learn by myself, I will use the billion diferent websites ran by true experts who will figure out the stuff, then just use the cookie-cutter spec and rotations, and strats for the bosses and stuff.
if we lived in a nicer world with more tolerant people, I'd find my own way, but since we don't then I have to use whatever is avaliable to please the angry crowds (and believe me, people DEMAND A LOT from the tanks these days)

I can see why you would say that, but internet+anonymity=jerk applies both ways. Let's swap 'jerk' for 'us', A.K.A. people trying out new strats. Internet+anonymity lets us remain unbranded. If this were not in LFD, I would not do this, but LFD lets me be free to do whatever

Internet+anonymity lets us remain unbranded
not really.
in my example, Internet+anonymity=jerk does works, because people know you by your toon name, not your real name, as such even if you're a saint in real life, while inside the game you can be a jerk and an ass if you want to, because nobody knows you in real life.
on your example Internet+anonymity=us doesn't work, because if you try to learn the game by yourself whitout relying on "expert" websites, all you're gonna do is slap the name "n00b" on the forehead of your toon, causing the rest of the realm to not go with you.
believe me, bad rep travels fast, just ask in my realm (duskwood) who loves Vampro (HORRIBLE player, and worst ninja ever)
the age of learning the game by yourself is over, people demand you to use the strats done by the "experts" or else you suck. It's not really fair, but that's the world we live in bro'

Since they first announced goblin, I've been wanting to play a goblin hunter, with a gun (already have the heirloom ready to go) and goblin engineering. I'm equally excited to see all the changes to the old zones. When leveling the goblin, I will be seeing a lot of new quests, and usually I would use Wowhead to help with quests I've never done.
However, keep in mind that we have all kinds of quest-tracking tools built into the game now. I really don't think I'll need to use Wowhead much if at all.
As for specs, I love reading up on what others are using and why. I don't think I could skip this. In fact, I will have my talent spec ready to go within a couple days of the new talent trees showing up on live since they will be there roughly a month before the Cata release.
Edit: Changes to the OLD zones.

I'd like to see a guild of only players like this try for the new raids, etc etc.

I'll go about my Goblin Hunter and Worgen Druid whatever way I wish. Even if it means leveling as Survival and Balance rather than Beast Mastery and Feral.

Nice. But will you listen to Wowhead's idea of a good balance/surv spec?

I'll do what I always do...
Start a new character of the new race, remove LightHeaded from my addons, and prance around the zones, reading the ENTIRE quest dialogue + text, and bludgeon my way around, taking 3x as long as the person who is having their hand held, while enjoying myself immensely.
It always reminds me of my first month of WoW, back when the only game help you could find was the forums on Allakhazam...

My new toon will be a Goblin Shaman.
I will do much like the above poster stated - when I first started out it was my very first time ever playing on an MMO - I had done the old MUD's (Diku/Silly's) and had a blast having to read zone descriptions, looking at NPC's and whatnot, so I was use to this kind of thing. I didn't know what an addon was, had no clue about Wowhead, or others, and basically stumbled my way through 9 classes and 8 races without (this was pre-WotLK, end of BC when I started) and picked the one I liked the best. I ended up as a NElf Hunter. I was the opitomy of Huntard, for sure. I had no clue how to play this game but was having a blast doing it. I didn't even find out about talents until level 20-something, ran my first dungeon by myself and could not figure out why the mobs were so damn hard, then got in a group and needed everything because I thought, if I need it for something, I need it. It wasn't until my brother-in-law came back to the game after a hiatus that I learned how to play. Found out about Wowhead, Curse, Wowwiki, all that stuff. It actually made the game more fun for me after that.
When I start off my new toon I will just go through their starting zone like I did with the DK (read everything, blah blah) and once I get out into the world I will begin my searches on websites, etc.

sounds good. I am going to wait for my friend to get HIS resto shammy to 15 so that we can LFD level together (one healer one DPS). In cata I will have a worgen rogue and goblin.... mage maybe.
