If I remember right Durotar and the Barrens were like that when they got there. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct.

I never thought I'd say this but I actually will miss Thrall. Even though I loved Grom I still feel that Garrosh is one giant jump backwards for the Horde. I'm hoping either he will learn his ways are going to lead to destruction or Thrall will become leader again through phasing or something. He's arguing with and angering the other leaders. It's like a ploy to make us appreciate Thrall more by having Garrosh ruin the Horde. And I'm not liking Blizzard making all our leaders look bad. Thrall getting caught by Alli (Goblin starting area), Sylvanas 'killed' temporarily by that Worgen guy (Worgen starting area I believe), whatever is going on with Cairne, Garrosh being an idiot, and Vol'jin wanting to murder Garrosh for being a horse's behind. I hope the Alli's leaders are being treated the same way.... I fear for the future of the Horde.

Since we've seen the last major-ish content patch, I've given up hopes of Bornakks promise to me of serious character development for Garrosh in this expansion; or any other for that matter. Then your playing the wrong game; from what we've seen in the new information about Garrosh, which is all through this thread, he is changing.... it might not be into a hero, but into less of a rageholic moron.

So, because something is in Beta and not yet on live you don't believe it? Good for you but understand that Garrosh won't be as hot-headed and moronic in Cataclysm as he is in Wrath.

Uh correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he already some kind of general in Garadar even though he's pretty depressed? I mean, if you're saying he's letting his people die because he's standing around in town then that's what just about every other leader in the game is doing.
Been a long, long time since I did that chain though so maybe they mention something about that in it.

Garrosh was the Mag'har military leader originally.

Have you done the quests in that area? You know, the ones where the quest giver is complaining about their impotent leader? Lore doesn't equal game play.
Never said lore = gameplay, but assumed that was what you meant since like I said, I haven't done the quests in a long time. (since TBC)
Remember the Impotent Leader one now, so I stand corrected. :-)

I think Varian's characterization also suffered a bit with this. I'm referring specifically to him feeling pity towards Saurfang in ICC.Not really; a father allowing another father to take his son away. Anduin is the most important thing in Varian's life, and he probably considered what it would have been like for him if his son had died.... also you know... Varian never had a chance to bury his own father's body, as Stormwind was sacked shortly after Llane's death, and he was forced to flee north with the other survivors.

Well, that's obvious.
But neither Jaina nor anyone from characters to us expected that Varian was still capable to assimilate an orc's son with Anduin and that orc with himself. Specially if you take the rest of the expansion into consideration.Eh... Garrosh wasn't there...
He probably took Saurfang more seriously because Saurfang was acting respectful. He told Muradin that he would resort to force if necessary, but instead of yelling and charging into battle like Garrosh, he was being totally calm and serious. And after Varian showed up, he was still respectful. "I will not forget this... kindness. I thank you, Highness."
Anyway, I think part of it is that while Varian has a problem with Garrosh (who doesn't respect the Alliance, and yells and acts like a big child), and Thrall (who he perceives as an ineffective leader who lets his people run around killing Alliance, not to mention taking Garrosh to every damn meeting, he can respect Saurfang, who is respectful of the Alliance and bears no responsibility for Garrosh's behavior and the Horde running amok.

Aye, Garrosh in Wrath is a weird bundle of rage and angst, with some overt racism thrown in for fun..... but he is changing coming Cata, and hopefully we'll be able to see his evolution through phasing and the rest.
Of course... with the 'kindness' between Varok and Varian, hopefully they don't end up facing one another in Cata, or else we might end up with something like Anderhol again.

I'd wager that Varok is in one of the unreleases zones or dungeons (like the Twilight Highlands or Uldum). Since Kurdan Wildhammer (the Alliance's 'Saurfang' badass character) is leading the Wildhammers, it's quite plausible that Garrosh has sent Saurfang to reign in the Dragonmaws. After all, I'd hate to see a major figure like Kurdran leading the Alliance in the Highlands and the Horde just having Overlord Mor'ghor or something...
