Exactly. So to anyone who actully tries to play down Garrosh's behavour in the shattering like he was meant to change, what it actully shows is he's probably worse then before, showing his want for personal glory, nevermind anyone else who stands in his way.
The horde lost a noble leader, but doesn't register with him, it was purely about himself.Hell, I'd almost go so far as to say that Golden wasn't even trying to make him
not
look like a brat.
Try to retroactively make him look competent, sure. But try to make him look like leadership material, and assuage any suspicions that Thrall must have a shard of saronite wedged in his skull to have left him in charge? Hell, no.

whaddayamean with lost? dude metzen just confirmed that Thrall is as important as ever, and thus he aint going anywhere, further adding that you shound't focus so much about garrosh since the story isn't ultimately about him.

ohh :P my bad.
though to be fair and square, Cairne was 103 years old mate, he had to go sooner or later. And we got a PERFECT replacement, as Baine is more than worthy of being High Chieftain, that boy is absolutely BADASS, he's pretty much "the anduin wrynn of the horde"

He was winning before Squeaker nicked him.
And while I'm glad to see that Baine is getting character development of his own (to say nothing of the way he kicks Grimtotem tail in Cata), it's kind of sad that his father had to die before that could happen.

Heh, standard plot move for that thought; Father/Mother goes down, kid steps up.

hey I'm well aware that despite his age, Cairne was still a force to be reckoned with, pff I'd like to see a single orc with Cairne's age capable of performing some of his feats, such as pulling up a very large giganting door and use it as a shield, or giving a tough fight to Garrosh. I for one truly believe that had Magatha not interfered, Cairne would had won. He was a true warrior and I salute him for it.
but again, he was REALLY old, he didn't had that much time left, at best he had a decade or two left, at worst he had less than 10 years left on his life. Taurens average agespan is of roughly 100 years and cairne was WAY past that (he was 95 in warcraft 3)

You know, something I'm thinking of right now.
Thrall was kind of lucky, in a sense - There was a lot of Orc heroes and figures to learn from : Drek'thar, Orgrim and, in a sense, Grom.
I look at Garrosh's upbringing, and all I see is.. well, absolutely nothing. I'm not trying to make him into a woobie or something like that, just that there's a chance that, had he had important orc figures to teach him, he'd have at least something resembling competence.Be that as it may, Golden breaking out "What'choo talkin' about? He
is
competent, dammit!" isn't very convincing. My guess is that she did well enough with the material she was handed, but you know what they say about silk purses and pig ears.

What do we get? HIm acting like a spoiled little kid in repeating conversations with Thrall and Vol'jin and some serious bs writing in that hack of an author Golden's book....wait, did you just seriously call Christie Golden a "hack"? You don't read many media tie-ins, do you?

Honestly, some people may buy into Metzens little "oh Garrosh is a plot device and we've got big things in store for Thrall" bullspunk but I don't. From the Echos of Doom patch and now into Cataclysm, Blizzard has been forcing Garrosh down our throat, trying to wash it down with promises of character development (promises from CM's of his development DURING Wrath, development that never happened). What do we get? HIm acting like a spoiled little kid in repeating conversations with Thrall and Vol'jin and some serious bs writing in that hack of an author Golden's book.
wow... just... wow...
I might have nerd rages about how I hate garrosh and varian.. but even I'm not THAT full of it like this post.
yeah, best not to take the bate.
