Varian or Garrosh? Sad for me to say but Varian... I dislike him but he knows what he is doing, I think gorrosh would just screw up in the fight but Varian probably would to.
Genn or Sylvanas? Sylvanas... Her and her damn 100% dodge and immune to spells buff.
Gelbin or Gallywix? Close, I 'll say gally just cause im a big goblin fan
Velen or Lor'themar? Whos Lor'themar? Oh yea that guy... Meh, who cares.
Muradin or Baine? Muradin, Baine is a terrible match up for him in my opinion... but who knows
And Finally Malfurion or Vol'jin? Malfurion Hands down, hes one of the most powerful beings in warcraft lore. I'm glad hes back and I hope to fight along side him as horde since he should be leading the circle.

Answer: Thrall Yeah thrall is strong but not quite in the same tier as malfurion. any other fight between thrall an <insert leader> would be close. (the exceptions being gallywix, Vol'jin and Gelbin. All 3 of them would explode at the word go lol.
Slyvanas is getting pretty mean...
(Recaptcha was ideal salutes. lol)I disagree. Thrall and Malfurion are on even footing. After all, it's not how much you've spent training, it's how devoted you are to nature, and then how much nature loves you back.
Thrall has the full backing of the Elements, and Malfurion has the full backing of the Dream. Malfurion has trained for thousands of years, but it's Nature supplying the power. Likewise, the Elements are supplying Thrall's power. Asking "Who is more powerful, Malfurion or Thrall?" is merely asking "Who is more powerful, the Emerald Dream or the Elements?" And there's no clean cut answer to that question.
No i wouldn't think it would work exactly like that training, time and devoution have to fact in at some point. Thrall is the Best shaman no doubt in my mind about that. But mal was trained by a god and is the first of his kind (Druids). He pretty much created the art of the druid. Also consider this Malfurion has defeated Queen azshara( A villian that still hasn't been defeated.) He killed archimonde (No he didn't thousands of wisps did! True but he channled the spell) Defeated the burning legion, stole the demon soul from deathwing, Defeated the nightmare lord, and apparently will defeat raggy and azshara again (its only a setback) now tell me exactly how many world killing monsters has thrall defeated By Himself?Nah, Malfurion has the full backing of the Emerald Dream, and Thrall has the full backing of the Elements. The Emerald Dream is no more powerful than the Elements, and vice versa, so they're equal.
Shamanism isn't about training and spellcasting and thing like that. All it is is saying "I need your help, Elements, will you help me?" and then the Elements actions are what we see as "spells." Thrall has no set power level. He's however powerful as the Elements want him to be to fix a problem.
I figure it's the same for Druidism. All it is is a mortal individual channeling the power of the planet.

Which raises the question, which is more powerful, the Light or the Elements? Ner'zhul says that the Light seems larger and more grand in BYTDP (novel).
However they seem equal...

However they seem equal...Yes, but Unbroken shows that the Elements span the entire universe. I'd say that they too are equal. The Elements certainly seem more forthgiving of their power, considering Thrall and other Shaman do amazing feats like the destruction of Durnholde and Thrall's destruction of that Necropolis, and so on, while the only really amazing divine intervention by the Light happened at the Battle of Blackrock Spire through Turalyon.

not to mention that the light rarely forgives.
when the orcs fell to the dark arts of the legion, the elements left them, but once the race attoned for their sins, the elements returned.
now tell me how many Draenei Vindicators who became broken have been able to wield the light again?
Tirion is honestly the only example I can think of, of a guy who lost his conection to the light and then re-gained it. But honestly, I think that Uther, Alonsus, Arthas, and that other dude whose name I can't recall, really didn't removed Tirion's powers, they tought they did but they didn't, it was Tirion himself who cut himself from the light.
when they "stripped him" of his powers, he lost his faith, in his mind he tought that really the light had abandoned him and no longer considered himself a paladin, yet when he tried to save eitrigg, he prayed and the light answered, wich at least from my point of view, proves that the light never really left him.
on every other individual who has been abandoned by the light, the light NEVER returns.
however the elements when they abandon someone, they do return if that someone is willing to attone.

now tell me how many Draenei Vindicators who became broken have been able to wield the light again?Everyone needs to stop saying this............................
Sorry but I have to:
THE BROKEN LOST THE LIGHT BECAUSE OF THE FEL GAS THAT THE HORDE USED ON SHATTRAH! THAT IS WHAT MUTATED THEM INTO THE FORMS THEY ARE IN NOW! THEY LOST THE CONNECTION TO IT BECAUSE OF THE FEL CORRUPTION ALL THROUGH THEIR BODIES AND WERE FORCED TO FIND A NEW SOURCE; THE ELEMENTS.
Rage over, but yeah, because of what they are, the Broken cannot regain the Light; it's not the like the Forsaken and their 'will' as they are still technically humans at their base, they were not transformed into a completely different breed of creature... and even then, the Light still burns at them if they use it.

Seems everyone underestimates ol' Vol'jin...
Though I don't think he could beat Mal (Hey, that's a bum match up for him man!), he certainly wouldn't bother fighting someone he knew he wouldn't beat...
He could just hex him a couple times, and then distract him with his dead brothers head or something.
