I would be interested in seeing some more numbers up in the guide -- presumably once we hit 85, as any time spent in crunching numbers for 80 will soon be wasted. :P
As in, what will be a good Haste rating to aim for? What's the ideal Exorcism cast time? Will pure Intellect win over Haste at any time?
It's definitely something I'll be looking deeply into once I've got my Shocker to 85. My thing is, I often don't have the materials to truly push theorycrafting -- I don't play the AH much nor do much with my professions, so I often don't have much gold to spare on trying different gem setups, etc. But I'll be doing my best. :P

You don't have dots, the glyph of Exo is useless as it won't have time to tick,
Actually, it has the same mechanic as stuff like Shadow Word: Pain. It continues to roll even after it's reapplied, meaning you can't "clip" the damage tick by reapplying it before the tick.
Even so, you're probably right. Right now, we're probably just experiencing a nice "twink" effect. Smite does the same thing for Priests -- from 1-50ish, it hits like a truck. But eventually it pales compared to Shadow-spec. I'm guessing it may still be viable for leveling, but at 85 it's probably going to fall more in line until we have high-end raid gear.

I'm leveling my other pally with the spec has the last patch brought any spec changes? Or is the one on the first page still used?

I am saddened that I may have to announce the death of this spec come level 85. From what I hear, it isn't anywhere near as effective as it is right now and our damage "falls more in line". Not to mention the BL/PoJ nerf. Ugh.

Not necessary. It's already in the helpful guides thread. Could do with some updating though.

I'm interested in the Shocky build in Cata after loving it in TBC and mourning it's loss come Wrath. I'm going to post a reply to the
zomgflamed "Shockadinquisition" thread
that's out on the WoW boards:
The way I've been playing as a shockadin now, and the way I played during TBC was as a healer who could DPS, but didn't always necessarily. In a dungeon, I never dreamed of being a full-on DPSer, but stayed in a healing role. However, when questing / dailies / etc., I was able to produce enough punch to kill things that being a "cookie cutter" holy pally couldn't do.
I still love playing as a shocky at 85, but yeah, I know it's not raid-viable damage (and I don't intend to raid anyway). I know that it's not going to be top of any healing charts either for the same reason (and same previous parenthetical). I also know that as has been said, it's also pretty close to being an arcane mage....but I'm OK with it.
The one thing that troubles me is that I have seen no less than four different descriptions on various websites and forum threads that state how to prioritize gear. Specs are pretty consistent with wiggle room of where to put the last couple of points, but one place will say Int > Haste > Spi > Crit > SP, and the next will say it's Int > SP > Spi > Haste > Crit, etc.
Again, I still have fun having 2.75 talent specs, but I'd really like to see some clarity on that.
EDIT: Btw, I do enjoy PvP as well, and that's what I've just jumped back into after dinging last week. I'm holding strong there, but I'd also like some PvE assistance as well.
Basically, a number of things were in conflict between Latrocius' OP on the WoW boards, this guide (which is of course outdated as it's for 4.0.1), and
a new one that's sprang up on MMOwned
.
Regardless of what the haters say...this IS a fun way to play the class (at least for some of us). If we can find a consistent concept of it, we can make it more accessible to others who also want to play outside the box.

Instead of triple posting, you could have edited your original one.
Also, the Holy Power generation from Blessed Life and Pursuit of Justice share a cooldown.

Right. Last bump I'm giving this thread. Just to let you all know this won't be updated any further. It's slightly outdated as is but still servicible, but I've no intentions of maintaining it. Reasons being:
Bored of WoW:
Focusing heavily on RP, thus I don't PvP or even Solo enough to give this thread any relevant insight.
Lack of Interest:
Having played RIFT and seeing what the casters are like in it (Inquisitor Clerics <3), my love for the much neglected Shockadin has finally died. With games out (or soon to be out) that give me the playstyle I so desire, finally, in a WoW-like wrapper, I just don't care anymore.
Probably won't be playing WoW for much longer
: See above. Draw conclusion. ?. Profit
Anyone with sufficient interest is absolutely free to copy and paste any material I've written for their own purposes. I suppose some credit would be nice but not mandatory.
As for my overall future on Wowhead, for -anyone- wondering (I know I'm not important), I probably won't be sticking around if my interest in WoW doesn't increase. I've been clinging on for a good year now. RIFT has my interest and it's probably time to sail off, to another harbour. This community has been good to me (
mostly
), and the inspiring passion many of you shared for Shockadins is really what drove me to write my series of guides on them. Initially just something I did when I was bored, the reaction is what spurred me on to do more. I figured there was enough interest to warrent the effort. Maybe Blizzard would see? Maybe they already saw and took my, or another similar thread into account when making the changes in Cataclysm? Who knows, I guess!
I'll be around for a few weeks yet, lurking as I usually do, tossing in my insight or troll-bait now and again where appropriate. Then I suspect I'll vanish and be forgotten, as it should be. A bunch of you have been really swell. I'd make a list, and it's probably the more appropriate thing to do, but then I'd have to make a list of the ones of you that ticked me off too, such is my way. :)
Regardless, if Blizzard ever make Shockadins actually viable in any sort of serious content, in raids, then maybe I'll return, having forgotten much, reading a Shockadin guide on these forums in a year or two. But, if you ask me, I'm not expecting much. We've asked for so long, and so loudly. It's never going to happen. Not the way I want.
I know it seems a little silly to include my spec not being viable amongst the list of reasons to leave, but that year of TBC I played as a Shockadin was probably the single best year of my life as a gamer. At least on par with the few weeks of OPness before Cataclysm (Well. I don't like being OP either. That was fun, but... "Godmode" fun. The fun that gets boring after you've cracked the 16th Imperial Guardsman over the head with your iron dagger. Well. Wrong game. But you get the point).
I ramble. But there you go.
Keep on firin' your holy lazors,
Ara.
