From OrcExcept Warcraft orcs are the exact opposite of LotR orcs.
to the "racial banter" with Dwarf's and ElvesUm, what? Ironforge dwarves are not fond of the High Elves, it's the Wildhammer clans which LotR has no analog for.
all the way to the whole idea of epic quests and evil overlords.Which in turn comes from old legends and tales about those.

I think you have your story mixed up as LotR was supposed to be a sequel of "The Hobbit" in a 2 volume set. The Economy at the time was not in the condition to do so, so Tolkien released Volume 1, excluding Volume 2 which was called "The Silmarillion". LotR was released as 3 books to make it easier for people to buy a book one at a time instead of the entire story all at once.
Mmm nope, not mixed up. Tolkien started writing Lord of the Rings before the Hobbit was published. Meaning, almost immediately after he finished writing the Hobbit, but before The Hobbit was publicly released. I don't recall saying it was written before The Hobbit.
I don't think anyone's really saying that Warcraft is, on the whole, BASED on LOTR, but that LOTR is basically the pioneer story of what we now know as High Fantasy. That being said, there are a few undeniable references/homages to LOTR in the game, directly or otherwise.

The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier, less complex children's fantasy novel The Hobbit (1937), but eventually developed into a much larger work. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II. Although known to many readers as a trilogy, the work was initially intended by Tolkien to be one volume of a two-volume set along with The Silmarillion; however, for economic reasons the publisher decided to omit the second volume, and published The Lord of the Rings itself in 1954–55 as three volumes rather than one.

I'm not sure who you're trying to support here, but inside the first few pages of Lord of the Rings, there is a very long preface detailing the processes Tolkien went through getting started, delayed, etc. I know very well it comes after, and is a "sequel" to the Hobbit, and ended up turning into a much larger entity.
My only point was to illustrate how early he started working on Lord of the Rings -- he began writing it in 1937, after finishing writing the Hobbit, but before the Hobbit was published.
Anyway, you can nitpick as much as you want, but it doesn't change anything about where the origins and influences began.
For the record, dwarves aren't very fond of elves, and vice-versa, in the Hobbit either.
Edit: I know this reply is late, but I sorta forgot about this thread. =P

I'm not supporting anyone, really. Just pointing out the facts of the matter.

Heh, that's what I figured. At first, I was like "wtf that's what I keep saying," but then re-reading it, I reconsidered. All good. I think my original statement was confused to mean "Lord of the Rings came before The Hobbit," which started the whole thing.
