Because we totally didn't already assume a Q4 release date.

You could make a ton of "close" official dates. That, and the fact that they expected people to be happy with ICC for this long is ridiculous. You'd assume they'd try and hurry it up. I'm not saying I've killed 25m H LK - but come on, almost a year with no new major content patches is pretty bad.
No, RS does not count. RS is filler content.

I'm not entitled to anything. You're right.
It's just smart business, though. If people's interest in your product starts to wane, why wouldn't you add new content? Waiting this long is just begging for frozen accounts. Frozen accounts = less money in their pockets = bad.
And Blizzard would never drop WoW. It's their cash-cow. They'll milk it for every penny before closing the last server, so your point is moot.

They would never want to, and won't, making your point moot.
We all already knew Cataclysm wasn't too far off anyways. And even still, this quote should be taken with a grain of salt as a "couple" of months is basically equivalent to "soon" for Blizzard.

Feels too much like the wait for Wrath of the Lich King.
...at least
that
raid that kept us occupied
had a chance at
legendary loot
. Not that Sunwell Plateau was intended as "just a filler" or anything. Just kept us... "satisfied."
All I'm saying is that this wait period is nothing unique. Expect it post-endgame, pre-expansion.
I'm also siding with the "grain of salt" comment. (Notable: Old, but still
relevant
).

I would say the lull is worse then its ever been. Almost all raiding guilds that are in deep-progression feel it. Nobody really wants to keep going in ICC. People stop showing. Higher end guilds are recruiting to fill empty spots, etc.
It's pretty depressing. I'm personally ready to close-up shop in ICC. I'm sick of it.

A release in Q4 was always assumed, eventhough many would like Cata to happen earlier; we have no new content to look forward to until then, which is pretty sad (I don't consider the retaking of Echo Isles/Gnomer to be that inticing, personally).
I assume/hope Blizzard has a couple of quick & dirty options up their sleeve, like adding frost emblems to 5-mans or to all raid bosses outside ICC/RS for that matter. Cheap fix, but that'd give us something to do on alts and stuff.

Ugh.
No.
That won't "fix" anything.

As I said, it'd be a cheap band-aid solution, but better than nothing unless Blizzard doesn't mind seeing many more subs getting cancelled until Cata.

If you actually watch the interview, the "couple of months" don't make much sense. Tom is talking about class balance, talents, and polishing when he says that, so I wouldn't put my pennies in a bunch. Also, I was left with the impression that Americans like to use "couple" as a substitute for "few" or "several" :)

Heh, I'm still of the opinion to let Cataclysm drop when it's ready to drop; there is no need to rush it, people always quit in the lull between expansions, and others keep going. There are also a large number who are coming back for Cata... just like they did for BC and Wrath. As for the Sunwell content; the Sunwell was always meant to be the finale of BC, the fact that it was released in the 'lull' of BC and Wrath proves nothing really.

At the same time, given Blizzard's established dedication to releasing quality games, releasing a game before it is ready could be more detrimental than the loss of revenue through frozen accounts.

To be honest, take a look at the patches for Vanilla, Ruby Sanctum is actually a major patch compared to what we got back in the day, For example, we had a MAJOR patch introducing Weather effects and new BLUE armor sets!
The Wow community has been given easy content because they whined it was too hard, now they whine because there is a lack of content because it was made too easy.
And that is mainly Blizzard their fault, they should have never introduced the 5-30% buff in ICC until patch 4.0 (patch that prepares servers for the release, not the release of catalcysm itself) and made the WotLK content (overall) around the same difficulty as TBC content.
