I'm pretty sure Jerks has it wrong there. DG is not a true taunt. All it does is force the enemy to attack you for a few seconds and does not effect your threat level on a permanent basis. After a few seconds, it will go back to attacking highest threat.

You are given threat equal to the mob's previous aggro target,
permanently
. .
Does not stack threat with another taunt, you still need to generate threat or like all other taunts you won't continue to hold threat. And I am not so sure that it is permanent threat, but regardless, it won't change anything I said. Taunt stacking doesn't work to double or build more threat, actions MUST happen to increase your threat on a mob.

While we are on the topic, sort of, does anyone know what mechanic it is that makes bosses immune to taunts sometimes? Like the Ice boss in VoA, sometimes it wont let me taunt at 4 stacks and the other tank ends up dead cause it says the boss is immune.

Okay, to make it clear: Taunts give you permanent threat equal to the person that has aggro, and gives you aggro for x seconds. DG and DC both work in this way, but the taunt portion of DG last shorter and cant miss.
Thats just how it is.

Taunt stacking still doesn't work and Icy Touch spam is still bad.

Ah I see. That's not likely my fault then. I only use the taunt button when I have to.

And once again for good measure cause people are retarded. DG is a true taunt. if you don't believe...next time your in a heroic drop AotD on a boss and don't do anything. When your ghouls are almost dead or the duration is almost over hit DG. Check your Omen and you'll have your answer.
If it's not a true taunt you should immediately lose agro when DG ends. If it is a true taunt you should have roughly 200-300k threat with just one spell.

Also, if your running with a bad paly tank...their single target
taunt
does holy damage and some of them like to spam it on every cd. i believe there's talents/sets to reduce the CD so they could be screwing over the diminishing returns.
Also, i'm not sure if this ever got fixed but when you DG a raid boss it'll sometimes say immune because it tried to yank the boss to you but their immune to that portion of the spell.

It says immune, but the taunt portion still works. It actually casts two spells: a taunt and a grip effect. Its just one of the reason why blizzard's ui sucks.

I had always been working under the original word that DG did not act like a true taunt, just a fixate. Now I'm unsure if that hasn't always been the case and people just read the tooltip wrong from the beginning. But did test it out for myself and yea, it does add the permanent threat to match the current highest.

Taunts, focuses, and threat.
All taunts have two effects-
Modify the caster's threat to that of the highest threat-holder's.
Forces the target to attack the caster regardless of threat.
When the two are combined the caster's threat is modified to mirror that of the highest threatholder then made the primary target of the mob for a duration. If absolutely no additional threat is generated by anyone after the taunt then the person that taunted would remain the aggro holder even after the second affect fades as nobody has generated
>
110% at melee or
>
130% at range of the taunter's threat.
There is no ability that only apply the first effect but there are abilities that only apply the second, these will be referred to as focuses. Focuses force the target to attack the caster for a duration, after that they'll return to the person highest on their threat list.
DK
Dark Command
is a fully functional taunt applying both effects.
Death Grip
is in fact a fully functional taunt applying both effects despite the misleading tooltip, testing has supported this. The taunt effect, separate from the lasso effect, has also been largely reported to have a 100% success rate given the target isn't/hasn't become taunt-immune.
Warrior
Taunt
as the name implies is a fully functional taunt.
Mocking Blow
is a focus, forcing the target to attack the caster but without modifying threat.
Challenging Shout
is an aoe focus but not a taunt.
Paladin
Hand of Reckoning
is a fully functional taunt.
Righteous Defense
is a fully functional multi-target taunt.
Bear
Growl
is a fully functional taunt.
Challenging Roar
just as its Warrior counterpart is an aoe focus but not a taunt.
IT spamming isn't ideal the vast majority of the time for single-target tanking but to a decent player it can have its place.
