Its quite amazing to me that everyone is linking websites and insisting that bubbling is two syllables. However, all the definitions are for bubble, and the pronunciation guide that indicates syllable count is for bubble. Except for
this
one, which shows that bubbling is three syllables, and people even linked.
Inflected Form(s): bub·bled; bub·bling \ˈbə-b(ə-)liŋ\

I'm very disappointed by the staff's picks. 80% of the picked haikus are either crap or they don't follow the rules. I've read an assload of haikus in the forums that were better, I highly doubt that the best ones were picked. I understand that the site is run by people, not by the viewers and it's not a democracy, but why do you expect the community to get involved if you select the ugly and the incorrect haikus?

@ Nimoku and all those that seem to think that bubbling is 2 syllables please go look at a dictionary and understand that it is in fact 3. Buh-bul-ing is how it is pronounced. 3 syllables which makes the Haiku the correct amount and shouldnt be slandered by all you lackwits.
Maybe you could go check a dictionary:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_syllables_does_bubbling_have
There, and here are the rules of counting syllables in a word:
1. Count the vowels in the word.
2. Subtract any silent vowels, (like the silent e at the end of a word, or the second vowel when two vowels are together in a syllabl.e)
3. Subtract one vowel from every diphthong (diphthongs only count as one vowel sound.)
4. The number of vowels sounds left is the same as the number of syllables.
Where is this 3rd mystery vowel in the world "Bubbling", the reason why there is often a discussion about the syllables in a word is because incompetent fools mispronounce it (And even then, syllable count isn't the same as pronunciation), usually due deviation of the original language (Same reasons why Americans pronounce "ask" the same as "ran", while the correct pronunciation is more like the A-sound in "Father".)
And to prove my point: Ask an English (Someone from England, a Brit) person to say "Cuddling", you will hear "Cud-dling", not "Cud- dluh-ing", that is, if the person isn't retarded.
But then again, syllable count isn't the same as pronunciation, sometimes it is correct, but not always. In this case it is just a mispronunciation on player's their behalf.
The Haiku is invalid, discussion closed.
Seriously, I wonder who even chooses these Haiku, one in the previous polls also had an incorrect amount of syllables. COUNTING IS NOT HARD.
And I'm not pulling this all out of my ass, because I'm butthurt that mine didn't get chosen; I know there are better artists out of there than me, and I didn't expect to win anyways, I just participated because I thought it was fun.
No, I'm enraged by the fact that the ones choosing the haiku can't even correctly count the syllables, and that the incorrect ones get chosen over others.

ITT: Massive, unrelenting nerd-rage over the syllable count of a word that's clearly been accepted based on widespread regional pronunciation.
You people should chill / Welcome to ****ing language / It's always changing
Pronunciation =/= Syllable count.
Thank you very much for a haiku that is actually correct tho :)
