Has anyone challenged the spreadsheet wisdom that putting 4/5 improved posions and 1/5 vile poisons, might be inferior to 5/5 improved poisons?
I am testing my own theory that 5/5 improved poisons might be better if you have a lower hit rating.
So far tests are inconclusive, just wondering if anyone else thought it was odd that 4/5 is the way to go

0/5 Improved Poisons: No attack power will ever make Instant Poison VIII equal or exceed Wound Poison VII at any gear level; Wound Poison VII is always better without any points in Improved Poisons.
1/5 Improved Poisons: 24750 AP
2/5 Improved Poisons: 10875 AP
3/5 Improved Poisons: 6250 AP
4/5 Improved Poisons: ~3938 AP
5/5 Improved Poisons: 2550 AP

Seriously?
THE SPREADSHEET PEOPLE say use Instant on mainhand, deadly on offhand
4/5 Improved poisons 1/3 vile poisons
What are you saying? dont put any points in those talents, and dps more by using wound?
Where is this coming from?
The "spreadsheet it" crowd would be aghast!

This thread is now about "what the @#$% does improved poisons have to do with hit rating".

Can you point me to the link of some elite thread that shows the calculations of the poison talent breakdown?

I'm just looking for answers, not interested in my forum status among the yoda's
you have to wonder... if 4/5-1/3 is better than 3/5-2/3 or 2/5-3/3 why isnt 5/5-0/3 better than them all.
This theory seems to favor increasing the application rate of poisons over increased poison damage.
But so they say...after 4/5 no need to go 5/5
when i read frequency of applications, the word "hit rating" comes to mind. So is there any instance where 5/5 would be better if your hit rating is lower?
most of the ppl here use the spreadsheet. just wondering where this info is coming from.

Check out Elitist Jerks, find out yourself.
Geez, is not that difficult...

Yes, I will go to Elitist Jerks and eventually will find some info on poisons.
I am sure the answer is somewhere in the 10 threads they have
Thanks for the help.

Stabya23, seriously are you blind?
Are my posts being blurred out?
you have to wonder... if 4/5-1/3 is better than 3/5-2/3 or 2/5-3/3 why isnt 5/5-0/3 better than them all.
it showed that 3.9k ap was the amount needed for instant to be better then wound
, and since this spec is designed for high level raiding, most people will have 4k or more ap.
0/5 Improved Poisons: No attack power will ever make Instant Poison VIII equal or exceed Wound Poison VII at any gear level; Wound Poison VII is always better

This has NOTHING to do with hit.
This has NOTHING to do with hit.
This has NOTHING to do with hit.

Caperon, I understand now what you were saying.
I am misreading the talents I suppose.
The talent improved poisons says... increases the chance to apply deadly poison, and the frequency of applying instant poison.
I had erroneously thought....that when you hit somebody with white damage...first you have to have a successful hit based on your hit rating, then once you have achieved that hit, you have to either apply poisons or not, based on the procc rate modified by the talents.
I thought hit rating went into this whole formula regarding white swings, and the corresponding modified procc rates.
Although you guys are miffed at my bewilderment, I will conceed to the overriding answers everyone that posts here are invariably given "spreadsheet it" or "go to EJ" (and find it within it's 7 threads)
I do appreciate your help though
