its true, its true.
I have no idea how the mechanics really work, what abilities they're supposed to be using and not (other than basics), what spells are good, which spec is best for what. I have no idea.
I have tried playing one several times and I can't get the hang of it, youre supposed to use like 20 different instants in some kind of rotation but stuck waiting on runes....um what?
They're just too different mechanic-whise from the 9 classic classes which I know inside and out. I could never play or understand DKs.
Anyone else?

I love mine. They're tricky to get into (lol) but to play well, they do require a lot of management. Try blood if you actually want a DK. Diseases, DS, DS, HS spam, DC spam, pest to keep diseases up. Unless you're fighting trash, then it's just DSx2, Hsx alot. Sadly, Blood DPS is going away for Cata... :(

You basically have your put diseases up abilities (IT and PS), which are both one rune each, frost or unholy depending on the button. These go on first since they buff everything else.
You then have your single blood rune abilities. These are pure damage abilities that rely on diseases being present.
You then have your one frost and one unholy rune abilities. These also depend on the presence of diseases.
Finally, you have your runic power using abilities. You gain runic power through using any of the other abilities, and you use it up on these abilities. You also have DnD which uses one of each and is a pure AE.
That's essentially it, although there are spec-based differences.
Which single blood rune ability you use is dependent on whether you're in an AE situation and whether you're specced into blood or not. You might also forgo one of these and replace it with pestilence to put diseases up on multiple targets.
Your one frost and one unholy ability is dependent on what you spec, and, if you're frost, whether you're in an AE situation or not. The other trees do not have a second option for AE.
Your runic power ability of choice depends on whether you're frost or not, and, to some extent, whether you're a tank or not.
The next complication is death runes. Because, for blood, blood rune attacks are the highest DPS, and for the other trees their one unholy and one frost are the highest DPS, it's advantageous to turn the undesirable runes into more of the desirable runes. Death runes are deceptively simple though, when you have lots, you mash whatever is the best button, and the button that makes death runes is always going to be the best one you can press in that situation.
Finally, like any class, death knights have cooldowns.
Edit: I hope this isn't a troll.

It's pretty basic. You have your two Disease abilities, and your Strikes, along with Runic Power Dumps.
Your Strikes are enhanced by your Diseases being on the target. Therefore, it's usually better to start out with your Disease applying abilities. Then you use your Strikes. Doing these causes you to gain Runic Power. Use your spec's "dump" whenever you can't Strike or need to apply your two Diseases. Re-apply Diseases when the debuff is about to drop off, and use your Strikes while watching them tick down.
Rinse and repeat.
That's basically it, in a nut-shell. Obviously for a more in-depth look you'd have to take a look into the class itself, complete with rotations and what not.

Pezz's post is great.
Something he mentions a lot but probably doesn't realise you need to know it because they're so damn basic - Diseases.
You have two diseases, primarily, as a DK. Plague Strike, and Icy Touch. Everything you do, whichever strikes(spells) you use, it's usually dependant upon one or both of these being on the target.
Obl
,
BB
,
HS
and more... read the tooltip, they all mention diseases.
So, that's the DK thing. In a fight, get yer diseases up! You can use pestilence to spread diseases you have applied to other enemies in a small radius.

if you need a add on like that as a dk.bad dk is bad
True.
just re roll
And false. Just because someone's never going to be 3k rated in arenas or getting LK25H firsts does not mean they shouldn't play the class. When my mate had a go on my account, he loved just killing stuff over and over again. Using one or two spells only, and then drinking after a few mobs.
He enjoyed it, so that was enough for him. And that carries to everyone!

I leveled my DK through solo questing only and I was stomped at how fast mobs died regardless of which abilities I used; it's complete facerolling, kinda ridiculous but somewhat fun at the same time.
It's only once you're 80 and wish to start running heroics/raids that you (preferably) need to work out some rotation, for which you (preferably) need to understand what all those abilities do.

I don't understand DK's either. I've read the stickies. I know about the diseases etc. But somehow, I don't understand them. I cannot grip the concept of how they work. Sure I can do quests and run instances. But get everything out of the DK, nope.
The function of the DK is to skip 58 levels so you can get to lvl 450 professions quicker. That's the reason I made mine. Later on I leveled her to 80, and sometimes I try to improve her gear. But she's a bit of an alt alt.
Odd thing is I really like the character. If I could class change I would. Leveling a female tauren with the same name, just wouldn't be the same. Odd, isn't it?

This topic is silly. Dont understand DKs?
Two DoTs. Two abilities, that set up the two DoTs. 2-3 abilities, that do a lot of damage if the two DoTs are applied.
Fighting with a DK is about applying your DoTs, and then pressing 2-3 strikes. It is preferable to press the ones that do more damage before the ones that do less damage (duh!).
If anyone has trouble "understanding" this, i am afraid he is stupid.

Ooh, "
somehow
i don't understand them". Sounds cool, for sure! But seriously? You do not understand what, exactly? The rotations? Or are you missing the feeling of the God of Death Knights watching you from above and approving your every keystroke? Well guess what, there is no God of Death Knights. Playing a DK is all about stroking keys in a certain order, and whoosh, you suddenly understand a DK!
Anyone else?
No. I do not think Death Knights require a higher degree of Rocket Science to comprehend, compared to the other classes. With some average intelligence, they are easy to get used to. I feel sorry for you.
