I did, indeed, notice that. Found it rather amusing, actually.
But yes, you are correct. The druids there are only crazy because of the overzealous, insane hunters seeking rewards. So, in effect, both sides are over reacting. That mammoth population is huge! *grins*

I'd like to take a good-natured look at the Thorns ability Druids have and how it would work ICly.
If we take the skill the "canon" way, i.e. spines growing out of the subject's body or armour, we will inevitably come to the conclusion that the subject of the spell will look like a porcupine! Or at least a curled-up hedgehog. Indeed, thorns can be effective, but only if the opponent grapples the Druid or attacks unarmed.
If you want numbers, here's a few - but don't take them entirely seriously, they are just my musings about an in-game phenomenon. A typical human arm is typically 3-4 feet in length, and a typical longsword is another 4 feet. So a fully stretched-out arm to the tip of the blade would make the effective distance 7-8 feet. Let's substract 2 feet from that, because the arm and wrist are often bent and slashes are rarely done with the very tip. But that's still 5 feet of distance the spines will have to cover.
Now, where am I getting with this? One can say that the spines are in fact made of magical force, but there's an easier solution - in real life, there are plants which grow their seeds in packets that explode when touched, sending the seeds far away.
Why not say druidic Thorns work the same way? The Druid's body is covered by vines which, when struck, explode and send a shower of small thorns in the direction of the attacker.

Porcupine bear...oh the mental images..
But yes, I always thought thorns would work something more like that.

First of all, what happens to druid's possessions when one shapeshifts? Not sure.
Are druids (
lore-wise
) restricted to the forms we see in-game? Druids seem to have their 'forms of choice,' but we can clearly see variation (i.e. Druids of the Fang in WC going snake form.) So the answer is no.
Where does their power over Nature come? Do they have to believe in righteousness of their deeds? - leading to... I like the definition from DnD. Druids get their power not from ruling nature, but from becoming one with it. The natural world has no concept of good and evil, and thus they can be either, but it has unnatural and natural. If you become unnatural, (i.e. Dark Rangers losing their nature powers with Undeath, or Satyr's losing it with fel energies), and lose your powers.
Can one, while being a powerful druid, still be ambitious, arrogant, power-hungry and the like? *Cough cough* Standral #$%helm *Cough*
How much time do druids spend in the Emerald Dream, and how does that affect their life-span?
Well, Malfurion's still alive. I think it really depends on the Druid. Ferals probably wouldn't spend much time, Resto's a lot and Balance... Balanced? I think Druids do tend to live longer though.
The whole Eclipse thing - what explanation does it have lore-wise?
I dunno, but Blizzard seems to be misleading us by saying Sun=Light, Moon=Nature, but then turning around and giving Nature Sun to... I say just go with what you think makes sense.
Do spells like Barkskin and Thorns actually grow branches, bark and else? Does that mean, that, technically, a druid can, for example, grow a lash upon his arm and use it offensively? - leading to.. This is really your choice, but I'd say no, unless you're in a specific form allowing you to do that (i.e. making thorns grow out of your tree form).
Combining their ability to cleanse poisons and grow plants, can druids poison the spikes of the afore-mentioned Thorns? Depends on the druid. I'd say sure it's possible to grow some poison plants, crush 'em and stick 'em on your barbs.
Does the shapeshift have to be complete, without intermediate forms?
Gonna say yes. I know we have the right to bear arms, but it's all about being natural, and some Fullmetal Alchemist Chimera Man-Bear-Pig thing is hardly natural.
How long does the shapeshift take
lore-wise
and what does one feel when experiencing it? Creative license. But be creative about it :P, gonna say that turning into a bear feels different to turning into an otter.
That's all so far, but I have a feeling I'll be adding more questions to this list. Thanks in advance for reading this and helping me.
Anytime man.
