greetings demons ^_^
questions for asakawa from his guides:
Metamorphosis is the most important ability a Demonology Warlock has. It increases damage done by a flat percentage which is further increased by Mastery.
The cooldown is shortened by casting nukes so don't worry about the 3minute cooldown, you want to use it early in the fight and as often as you can from then on
- only save it if you know your raid will use Heroism/ Bloodlust soon.
please explain how the nuke shortening our meta CD? how does that happened? what exactly we do to get it down from 3 min to say 1.5 min ?
for demo locks, can somebody look into my rotation and see if something is not done right? ( some people like to come close to the boss and use immo aura while in demon mode,.... i don't)
my rotation:
curse of elements, immolation, bane of doom, corruption, hands of guldan, and then bolt, its different from asakawa's guide, but this way at least the curse and immolation doesn't lagged behind, like when we do instant cast for 2 different spells, doom and corruption for example, they cant be cast instantly (at least for me)
and my questions are:
1. after these rotation what else should we pay attention to increase dps? (item level 363, doing ragnaros and only 12K dps... the other dps got around 20K, my place in the raid is getting shaky)
2.after a while into the fight i emptied my mana and life tap, these earned me a scorn from our healers. do we life tap in sessions during the fight? its slightly confusing playing locks from mage, while evo can bring me back to full mana, life tap only a small percentage, i got carried away and tap until i got full mana. and then drain life for a bit. did i do it wrong?
3. when we trans-morph into demon, what to do? just nukes and let the DOT expires? or go close and immo aura while bolting? usually i cast meta and demon soul in the beginning of a fight, sometimes a doom guard. then start my rotation from curse of elements to shadow bolts. if we didn't get wipe, my dps is ok thanks to doom guard. but its 10 min cd. is there any way around this? to get higher dps without doom guard?
i guess that's it for now, look forward to the answers from fellow demons ^_^

Impending Doom
Rank 3
Increases the chance for your Bane of Doom to summon a demon by 30% when it deals damage.
Also grants your Shadow Bolt, Hand of Gul'dan, and Incinerate spells a 15% chance to reduce the cooldown of your Demon Form by 15 sec.
Rotation:
It's best not to think in terms of "rotation" and get on board with "priority". The priority I list is the spells that do the most damage for the time you spend casting them down to the spells that give the least (your main nukes). Because the spells higher up the list give the most "bang for your buck" they're the ones you cast if the cooldown is up or if they're about to drop off in the case of DoTs.
Because you're constantly monitoring the state of all the different spells on the priority list you may find that a good addon helps you a lot (I used TellMeWhen but other good ones are NeedToKnow, ForteExorcist, EventHorizon, PowerAuras). You need to be aware of when the HoG cooldown is coming up so you cast it as soon as possible. You need to know when Corruption is about to drop off... and so on. You should aim to refresh DoT spells any time between the second to last and final tick and aim to recast spells that have a cooldown as soon as possible after they become available.
Mana:
We try to Life Tap little and often throughout the fight. As soon as you get to a point where you can LT without going
over
your max mana then you should start thinking about a time to do it. This would be any time you need to move or any point where you're about to cast a normal nuke (meaning that the rest of your priority is okay).
That's the guidelines for using LT but, generally speaking, Demo doesn't need to use it much. We get a sizeable chunk of mana back every time out pet crits and between pet scaling and a flat 10% from HoG your pet should crit plenty.
Meta:
DoT are even more important when you go into Meta form because if you cast BoD during Meta it will continue to tick for the large numbers even after Meta runs out.
Meta is affected by Mastery so you should think of all the ways that can increase your Mastery (trinkets like
Moonwell Chalice
and
Necromantic Focus
) and only use Meta when you have the maximum Mastery. Doomguard works in the same way, you want to get lots of Mastery and
then
use the DG. In both cases it's no good using the cooldown and then getting the Mastery procs.
In Meta you want to use the priority as normal but getting in close is important if you're able (some boss fights just don't allow it). Again, be sure to get close
before
popping Meta. You would waste Meta globals if you pop it and then run in.
I hope some of this helps a little. Good luck with improving things.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

So The demon lord himself answer's lol, feel humbled.
Thank you very much.
i got a pretty good add on's, and while monitoring the whole dots can be overwhelming, well thanks for the info, not sure if its gonna works for other versions of wow that isn't in English.
i'll ask the forums again when there's new questions.
PS : ever tried having a higher stat in haste than mastery for demo-lock?

PS : ever tried having a higher stat in haste than mastery for demo-lock?
Haste and Mastery are VERY close for Demo with Haste generally being better at lower gear levels and Mastery taking over at higher gear levels. (
Sim
your character for specifics)
I mention Mastery so strongly in my reply because it's important that any Mastery procs be in place before you use your cooldowns as Demo. Of course if you've got a trinket that procs Haste then using it during Meta is ideal but the Haste (or Int/spellpower for that matter) procs can happen after you've used Meta.
It's also probably worth mentioning that Mastery improves the damage from the more difficult bits of playing Demo (lining up procs and cooldowns and knowing the fights) while Haste increases damage from the easy bits (spamming your spells) so Haste might be stronger for someone that's newer to playing Demo while Mastery might become stronger as you get better.

Small question: does demonology multidot as well on fights like Valiona & Theralion or Shannox?
Changed to affli in Firelands after having been demo for the entirety of wotlk, so wanna try it out again after the buffs in 4.3 :) I love multidotting as affli though ^_^

Hopefully a proper Demo-playing Lock will give you a better answer. I only play Demo on Ragnaros (Axe Toss) where it doesn't apply.
However, Immo and Corruption are both high DPET (even more so in the next patch when you'll have a few talent points free for Imp. Corruption) and would be worth casting on multiple targets that will live long enough.

I know my guilds Demo lock multi dot's on Shannox and his dogs, and he pulls usually about 22k on that fight easy so I'd assume it's a good thing.

Iv been trying to fine tune my lock. I Imported him in to simcraft and had these scale weights:
Crit
- 2.5911
Haste
- 1.4695
Mastery
- 1.6406
I didnt think that looked right, so with the same gear and settings I ran it
again and got:
Crit
- 0.7406
Haste
- 1.5322
Mastery
- 1.2507
Im running it with
500 Sec
50,000 iterations
and Patchwork
What could cause the huge variation, and how do I know which number I should use? I assume its the second set.

Any help would be awesome!

Not sure went wrong with the second lot but you're right that they look very suspect.
I've gotta ask, why didn't you run it a third time? ^_^
Assuming you re-imported for the second test I would guess that something messed up on the import the first time and led to a dodgy actionlist.

Well I was in the middle of simming it again but I wanted to add plot reforges to it but it always stops st scaling mastery. So I guess I will do a third regular one lol.
Edit
Well the third one ahd them all at .9ish and the fourth one had haste 2.3 and the other two below 1. It crashed before I could type the numbers. So, now I have no idea what to do lol.

Crashes too? I wonder if it might be best to re-download your SC. If you were using an older version then that wouldn't have helped either.
I would say that, while greater iterations means greater accuracy, you don't need to do it on 50k - particularly for plots which take a hellish amount of time to do. 10k will give a good enough idea of stat weights for most applications.
Also, I noticed you said 500 second tests and I wanted to check that you had some variation to that. I wider variation is actually a good thing for the accuracy of your sims because it removes issues like trinkets always getting used 3 times on a 500 second sim but 2 times in a 499 second sim (for example), which can throw things off.

So, after changing it to 450 I still get wildly different results. I even redownloaded it. Ugh! Any other tips?

I don't mean the "length" option, I mean the "Vary Length" option.
