personally i'm not overly fond of trash but then if every new raid was ToC i wouldn't still be playing this game.

Pretty sure there are ways to make ToC-style raids fun.
EoE is a pretty decent example.

My approach to affliction dps is not to try topping the dps chart but bottoming the healing needed chart. Dont get me wrong, i do top the dps sometimes, which i am pretty proud of as PvE for me is a secondary part of my wow experience but right now, with healer mana a big issue, i feel rather independent as drain aff.
I run affliction in heroic pugs solely for this reason, especially since I've been disappointed with Demo so far.
Not sure what I'll be raiding as yet, but I'll probably just stick to Demo cause it's what I've always used ^_^

EoE is an example of a single boss instance... and one that a lot of people seriously dislike for its dragon-riding.
trash is a convention of the genre and like a lot of conventions it can easily grow stale. not liking it is perfectly understandable but wanting it done away with is a little short sighted in my opinion. i think the trope is ripe for a reboot but it needs a more elegant solution than you're talking about.

I like trash... Most of my happy memories from Ulduar are trash wipes or conversations that happened while clearing trash =P

Oh no. I wouldn't flat out get rid of trash. Like I said before, it does add flavor to the instance.
Take Black Temple for instance. It's pretty clear the outdoor area, for example, is a training around, as is the trash before Teron Gorefiend.
Lol, also Den of Mortal Delights is self explanatory lawl.
E: Perhaps they should do more trash like say in Heroic Deadmines or Grim Batol (i.e. it's not just you pound away at the trash, CC-ing as you go, but there's a special gimmick like the dragon ride bombing run or the cannons.)

personally i hated EoE, but i have to admit probably the hardest i've ever laughed playing WoW was during that raid
i was raiding with my brother who was on the computer downstairs so i could hear him if he yelled, once we got to the disk part everyone was like freaking out and doing bad, but i see my brother jump on the disk and start owning people.. and from downstairs i hear him singing very loudly the back to the future theme when marty mcfly is on the hoverboard: DOOOO DO DO DO DO DOO DOOOOO

i was laughing so hard i was crying lol

Eh. Void Reaver trash ruined it for me.
I don't enjoy trash. I consider it a minor inconvenience that adds flavor to the instance.
And yes, I have done Ulduar trash, btw.
Also, difficult =/= fun for everyone. What I enjoy are some nice, unique mechanics.
I never raided during BC, so I wouldn't know. (I have done my fair share of hc 5mans though)
Maybe the trash mechanics in Ulduar were more noticable for tanks, but I did find a lot of them quite unique (especially the bomb-exploding and spiderbots I mentionned in my previous post). I'm not saying ALL trash is fun or hard, but still.
Speaking about EoE, the only reason I disliked it was because people tended to fail at it quite badly.

this.
i enjoyed it myself but disliked having to get people set up with a macro that would work in vehicle mode. otherwise good players just seemed to fall apart when asked to do something out of the ordinary.
also, on a different note, got two 85s now. questions is priest or shaman for my first healer...?
they're both at 81 but priest's mind spike might make the decision for me. my guild seems to consist almost entirely of druids and paladins so, even though i really love my druid and my pally was great fun during wrath, it's got to be priest or shaman first i think.

New hotfix for us today sounds exciting...
It is no longer possible to waste a Soulstone by attempting to use it on a dead target. The player will receive an Invalid Target error message at the completion of their channel. In a future patch, we intend this functionality to work correctly, allowing a Soulstone to be used to instantly resurrect a dead target.
Sounds like our soul stone might start working like rebirth in the future.

Old news is old :) Read a blue post about that weeks and weeks ago
Concerning the priest vs shaman: I have a disc priest myself (only lvl 45 though). Lots of fun, but I think I would freak out in Cata 5mans and respec holy xD
As far as shamans go, I have one that's lvl 34, enh MS / resto OS. Only healed 1 dungeon and it's boring (earth shield tends to do the job on its own). But hey, that's low level, not 85 ^_^

Which will be nice. Hope they keep the old mechanic too.

haste is an important stat that has large peaks in it's strength around certain values (namely 10, 30, 50, 70%). since the EJ profiles hit those plateaus they show low values for haste but that doesn't tell the whole story.
Can you elaborate on this at all? If I were going for the 30% plateau for instance would I include the ISF buff? 15% seems pretty reasonable to reach in current gear levels. It might even be too low considering raid buffs and Dark Intent, although reaching 50 might have to wait until Tier12.

exactly ^_^
getting hit capped and getting 30% haste (when raid buffed) should probably be considered entry level caps for destro. hitting 30% is very easy but it makes a big difference so it should be given a little thought when putting together a raid set.
the upshot of relying on ISF, though, is that it becomes incredibly important to never cast immolate when the buff is down.
from another thread:
Off topic:
Have you guys noticed there have been literally no blue post regarding the current state of broken warlock specs?
I mean there have been many posts over and over again explaining the Vengeance mechanic (I really dont know, what is there to explain... but yeah, brain damage can do wonders) or the new healing mechanics (suggestion for those, who needed that number of posts to explain these two changes: check, if your parents aren't brother and sister).
Not to mention those beautiful blue posts relating to wonderful and important threads like WoW Soundtrack or american kid crying about HCs difficulty... that's just great
so, a new expansion shipped.
for single player games that would mean the end of the "crunch". job done. everyone have a holiday. come back in a month and we'll start on the sequel.
this is an MMO so a release means things get a little busier ^_^
i now have a healer at 85 (almost as well geared as my lock already >.<), believe me, they need to hear that the huge changes they're experiencing were entirely intended. same with tanks.
we're a DPS class with a few niggling inconsistencies. i would love to have them addressed but i also have a melee DPS at 85 which has problems i'd like to have fixed. my friend the ret pally (been playing ret since before they were strictly viable) has a list of issues with his spec.
the list goes on. they will get to our little problems eventually but right now they've got a new game and a whole playerbase to settle.

I agree with asakawa. There are other things that take precedence right now. For example, "Lava Parasites will no longer cause the Magmaw encounter to reset if they Evade." This is what I call a serious issue.
