Any gathering professions will net you cash.
Play what you want, test them all out and see what you enjoy the most.
Trust us, your talent trees will show the way; at low end brackets, nearly everything but the prot specs are viable.
As for the rest, depending on what you end up choosing, read through the class stickies in the appropriate forums, they'll assist you.
Beyond that, welcome to Warcraft, may it consume your life and turn you into one of us.

1. Start whatever class you want
2. Depends on your class but it's fairly easy to get (since you say you're a diablo vet it should be easier)
3. Gathering professions; Mining and Herbalism most probably.

Hunter is very straightforward, but if you are skilled you will probably get further with mages.

thank you for post but another questions popped up whiliest reading it
are there synergys for the skills?
Some: Mining goes with Jewelcrafting, Engineering and Blacksmithing. Herblism goes with Alchemy and Inscription. Skinning goes with Leatherworking. Tailoring and Enchanting usually go well together as well. But you can mix and match as you want, just know that pretty much all of them make it easier if you have the appropriate gathering tool to go with it.

ok what would be the best profession if i decided to make a mage for instance?
or does it really matter at all?
Tailoring and a gathering profession probably. You can craft gear for yourself while you level.

Blacksmithing makes plate and a little mail armor.
Leatherworking makes leather and mail armor.
Tailoring makes cloth armor.

Here are some tips:
Invest is some large bags (at least 16 slot each).
Make sure you roll a character on a high population realm. Why play an MMO if you never see any other players, and if there are only a few dozen players in Orgrimmar or Stormwind?

Heh, lots of people can answer the questions, I just have too much free time on my hand lol.

QFT, nothing worse then running out of bag space in the middle of nowhere, and my server failing at the elemental invasion in org during prime time makes me cry.
Or having 4 alliance rip through Orgrimmar >.>

Good to see a new user genuinely asking for help. I think we get too many threads that look like "wat class is da best???" and often forget that no every newbie is a noob.
This being said, welcome to Wowhead! Read the Rules and FAQs, report users and posts you have problems with (as opposed to trying to deal with them on your own), and make a full use of our wide (and mostly functional :D) toolset.
