Hey all! Recently made a prot pally (he's lv 22 now), and I was wondering, what do you think of this talent spec?
http://www.wowhead.com/talent#s0oZGMhfRzdRRuf0h:skzbRqMzm
Good? Bad? If it's bad, I'd like to know why, so I could improve it. Thank you!

You have both Hammer of the Righteous and Crusader Strike glyph.
It's not too much to go through the thread at the top that says "Read before posting" or "FAQ"

What's wrong with having both? I want to be able to both AoE and single-target tank.
Post by
atomicwolf22
Both are not needed. Thats what Blade is pointing out.
Here is my toon>

That should let you get an idea of how to spec. There also appears to be 2 different specs that can be used.

Alright, I changed it from CS to SoTruth.
However, I noticed some problems with your spec.
-Reckoning: Sounds good, but if any of those attacks are parried, there's chances that you could cause a wipe. Many raid bosses have hidden abilities where if they parry x amount of attacks in x secs, they'll start dishing out a major hurt. On top of that, reckoning doesn't proc enough to really have an effect over other talents.
-Personally, I don't think Pursuit of Justice is worth it over other talents
-Glyph of Consc is BAD. The extra cooldown length basically just makes sure you aren't using as much mana. And that isn't a problem anyhow.
Any other suggestions?

No and no, someone told you bull^&*!.

Maybe if all the fights were static.

No, it also gives you more damage uptime, it's ~20% damage increase.

1. Below is from a link, shown below it. Other people back it up.
Just tested and here are the results (please note that these have been edited to show only the relevant information and has been split so it's easier to read). You can skip this and look at the conclusion at the end if you are not interested in reading the evidence.
Combat Log:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Theshinyguy gains Theshinyguy's Reckoning.
Theshinyguy's gains 1 extra attacks through Reckoning.
Theshinyguy's melee swing hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 183 Physical.
Theshinyguy's melee swing hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 182 Physical.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice is refreshed on Cabal Spell-weaver.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 20 Holy.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice is refreshed on Cabal Spell-weaver.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 29 Holy. (Critical)
...
Theshinyguy's Judgement hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 475 Holy.
...
Theshinyguy's Hammer of the Righteous hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 64 Physical.
Theshinyguy's Hammer of the Righteous hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 707 Holy.
...
Theshinyguy's gains 1 extra attacks through Reckoning.
Theshinyguy's melee swing hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 417 Physical. (Critical)
Theshinyguy's melee swing hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 165 Physical.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice is refreshed on Cabal Spell-weaver.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 20 Holy.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice is refreshed on Cabal Spell-weaver.
Theshinyguy's Seal of Justice hits Cabal Spell-weaver for 19 Holy.
Theshinyguy's Reckoning fades from Theshinyguy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So in conclusion:
- Reckoning only effects auto-attacks
- Reckoning causes 2 applications of any seal you have active assuming both attacks hit
- Reckoning does not effect Judgement, Hammer of the Righteous or any other melee attack.
As Reckoning is only a chance on block and only effects auto-attacks, it is fairly useless in my opinion, unless maybe you use it to apply multiple charges of Seal of Truth but even then there are probably better talents at the moment.
Also please note that this is only my opinion backed up by my collected data.
Hope this helps some people out =]

2. Personal opinion. It can vary. Depends on your own judgement.
3. "Increases the duration and cooldown of Consecration by 20%."
... No extra damage. Only lowers mana. Why?
10/30 sec (33% of the time it's up) VS 12/36 sec (again, 33% of the time, it's up)... so no differences except a slight increase in mana, which is useless.
EDIT:
Oh, btw:
"Yeah, in Heroics it can be fun. Just depends on your preference really.
I heard some raid bosses have parry-haste enabled, so it's bad to use on them
, but I don't know if that's true."
"As a threat talent it is below Crusade -> Convinction = Seals of the Pure -> Reckoning.
Against bosses that parry haste(Like Sindragosa) it's not really smart.
Once Cata hits it's better than everything except Crusade for threat. "

1.......

Reckoning is better than Grand Crusader, Rule of Law, etc.
2. Personal opinion. It can vary. Depends on your own judgement.
There's a reason people used run speed enchant over stamina enchant for tanking in 4.0.1
3. "Increases the duration and cooldown of Consecration by 20%."

CS > J > CS > X > CS > WoG/SotR is 6 abilities, or 9 seconds.
Assuming X is Consecration, the next time you can use it is 36 seconds (9sx4, unless you get Eternal Glory or miss your SotR) regardless of if you have the glyph or not.
"Yeah, in Heroics it can be fun. Just depends on your preference really.

Parry-Haste is far from a hidden ability, warriors are more prone to it than we are, but they did fine.
"As a threat talent it is below Crusade -> Convinction = Seals of the Pure -> Reckoning.
Conviction? Sounds like this is completely outdated.
Against bosses that parry haste(Like Sindragosa) it's not really smart.
See above.
Once Cata hits it's better than everything except Crusade for threat. "
Sounds like you're contradicting your point 1.

So reckoning could work.
Still don't see a point for using Glyph of Consc, or the Pursuit of Just talent-- you said something about a run speed effect... they don't stack, read the talent description.

The point is, it still costs the same amount of mana. It does more damage per point of mana spent, basically. Along with that, Blademeld's point was that it fits into our Prot "rotation" better if we glyph it.
As to Pursuit of Justice:
There's a reason
people
used run speed enchant over stamina enchant
for tanking
in 4.0.1
He wasn't referring to Paladins, but to other tank classes. They often used the run speed increase instead of Stamina. Paladins can talent into it, and it's helpful in most -- if not all -- raid encounters.
As Reckoning is only a chance on block and only effects auto-attacks, it is fairly useless in my opinion, unless maybe you use it to apply multiple charges of Seal of Truth but even then there are probably better talents at the moment.
Actually, it's most useful once
Seal of Truth
has already reached 5 stacks -- every white swings causes additional Holy damage. Reckoning causes extra white swings, meaning even more of that Holy damage. That's why it's one of our best threat talents.

No, my point is that the effective CD is same regardless of if you have it glyphed or not, therefore, the glyph increases the uptime of Consecration by 20%, thus increasing damage by 20%.

I was referring to paladins, in 4.0.1, protection paladins could not get PoJ (Level 80 cap)

Alright. Thanks all! Gonna get glyph of consc, but still don't see a point of PoJ VS other talents as of now. Really appreciate the input :).

Bah, missed the 4.0.1 part, thanks. And sorry for misunderstanding the Consecrate thing. I don't think I really got it in the first place so I assumed my own meaning. >.<
Post by
JASP01
Yeah, np. I thought I had WoW and theory crafting figured out, then I tried tanking X(. Lol, it's worth it though.
Post by
Arannia
The point of PoJ is basically this:
You're a tank. With PoJ, you're a tank with 15% extra mobility, which is important when it comes to mob pickup, and reaction-time-capping.
Post by
JASP01
I guess that's true...
But I guess it depends on play style. If I know I'm going to pick up mobs, I'll save an Aveng Shield (and Consc if needed), and I tend to react quick to other mobs.
But if you want it to be effective, you might need it. Just depends on the person. I'd rather not, but that's me.
P.S.-- love your signature, lol ("To paraphrase: Gearscore is like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.")
