maybe not the most useful thing it can be used for but when fighting melee i imagine you could use it to leap away and charge back in for some free rage and a little stun especially since charge is usable in battle for arms and prot. Or hamstring and leap away when they blow cooldowns for a big burst.
Cowardly leap seems to have some potential...
and i would imagine charge + intercept + heroic leap really screws with those ranged guys that like to kite from that little deadzone. Could leap off to any angle and charge back in. Might even be disorienting a bit to be kiting a guy and then have him instantly attacking you from the other side

It's a great skill, when it works. With a range of 40 yd you can jump twice as far as a mage's blink and you can even choose where you want to land. I don't want to miss it in boss battles anymore.
The big downside is its extremely unreliable and incomprehensible line of sight mechanics. There's a pebble between you and where you want to jump? Bad luck for you, no path available! Some slants you can jump up/down, some you can't. I guess it's so strict because Blizz wants to prevent abuse right from the start. But they could at least tell you that your target is invalid
before
you try to jump there.
Sounds like it's a lot closer to our (Mage's) Blink than you might think. Always wondered why it couldn't draw a path like that dang-fangled charge does.

Like a few others have said, it's kinda gimmicky. It's a fun tool for certain encounters in PvE (I don't PvP a lot, so I won't put any input in for there).
a few nonessential uses for it -
Farming nodes, gets you there quicker
quicker runback if you die in a dungeon.
Archeology - quickly gets you from point A to B and is shorter than mounting and running.
PvE uses -
Kiting. Notably the darkness boss in heroic HoO (forget his name), you can get a hefty distance between yourself and the mobs that you have to tank (assuming you're tanking). It also gets you to the next portal quickly if you're DPSing. Other useful kiting spots are the final boss in heroic Grim Batol, or getting distance between yourself and the fire elemental on Drahga Shadowburner (or whatever his name is).
Opener against AoE -
again, this is more of a tank thing. Large packs of mobs that have to be AoE'd down (the murlocs in heroic Throne of the Tides, the troggs in hHoO), it's a quick and easy way to grab aggro, as well as planting yourself right in the middle of them for a Rend/TC combo for insta-threat.
Also smart to use in the final boss of heroic Stonecore, the little packs of mobs that get past the gravity wells need to be picked up quickly.
It also suffices against Magmaw in BWD, since he's not charge-able.
GTFO tool
Warriors don't really have a way of getting out of combat, other than this skill. If i'm running between quest spots (in Tol Barad, otherwise i'd be flying :3) and I pick up a couple of mobs that knock me off of my mount, just Heroic Leap away and you've got plenty of distance between you.
Also useable on boss encounters like the first boss in hBRC, to get away from the Skullcrusher ability as fast as humanly possible.
Do I use it every time it's off CD? no. But there are certainly some very handy times that I'm glad I have it.

I like it in certain situations, especially PvP if there is an enemy either chasing me down or me chasing them down. Wonderful to move quickly to take out Mobs and Players, who are just out of range.

Want to be the first to mount out the gate in WSG? HEROIC LEAP
Want to cap that flag from the roof? HEROIC LEAP
Want to stop that cocky druid FC from getting away? HEROIC LEAP
Want to stop someone from capping mines from the BS cliff? HEROIC LEAP
Want to cross the river in Twin Peaks? HEROIC LEAP
Want to use it anywhere in BfG? PANCAKES
GG, "no path available"
though there are some instances when you get thrown in the air, and if you're fast enough to do heroic leap while in the air to avoid falling damage...
heroic leap usage in dungeons is nice, the damage on landing together with whirlwind and cleaving usually leaves trash mobs near death.

in PVE i use it more than i would have expected. kiting a boss, trying to get somewhere a little quicker (throne slipstreams, twilight council wind/ground buffs, etc). i've also used it when i'm taking a lot of damage to buy the healers a few seconds.
it's not bad, but pathing and surface-dependent mechanics are annoying.

Agreed on annoying and on its pve usefulness during raid or dungeon encounters.
pvp, i like it too, bring instant death to that near death rogue from afar, the term "death from above" applies well.

I find it amazingly useful on my warrior. I just did an alt run tonight, and I'll list off some times I used it:
Valiona and Theralion - getting across some Dazzlings when the tank pulled Valiona the other way, so I could continue DPSing.
Omnotron - used it to get back up to the head statue to pick up my second Tron, when it was spawning. Also used it to get away from Poison adds once.
Atramedes - used it to help with kiting the breath during an air phase, as well as once to get past some sonic spheres heading my way. The best, though, was when I leaped out to the last gong when our mage died to Modulation, so I could hit the last Searing Flame.
Conclave - used it to get back to the slipstream when on North (so the last ice patch didn't cover the landing area for the other group), as well as to quickly move Anshal away from his healing circle
All in all, I love it. It enhances the already fabulous mobility of the warrior (especially prot warriors). It may not be as flashy or routinely used as some other level 85 abilities, but it has a welcome niche on my bars.

The most use I get out of it is while farming so I can beat people to nodes.
ROFL,That is just funny!

I've found it to be an awesome tool for getting out of AoE.
Heroic Leap out, wait for boss to stop nuking his surroundings, charge back in.
On occasion, I'll use it to get aggro on a group of mobs. Shout for rage, Heroic Leap into middle and follow up with AoE/group aggro of choice.
Oh, and when multimob grinding I like to shoot A, Heroic throw B, then Heroic Leap C and D. Faster than running around mounted.
