Haven't played a hunter in a while, but from what I remembered, they were kings of soloing elites and such because they essentially had a personal tank that they could heal when they needed to.
Now, however, I find that my pet holds absolutely NO aggro, even when spamming its Growl (and of course with Cower not being used).
I wanted to have some fun leveling my hunter, soloing elite quests without thought and whatnot, but now if I want to solo something I have to kite it around, and God have mercy if the elite is immune to snares/slows or something (though admittedly most aren't).
Still, it just seems weird to have aggro all the time even when you have a tenacity pet (Isn't that what they're for? Tanking?).
Not sure if this is QQ but I don't intend it to be, I'm just confused as to why pets don't hold aggro for crap anymore.

Glyph of Misdirect. That is all.

Since he stated that he "wanted to have some fun leveling my hunter..." I would assume that he'd be below the required level 76 needed for Misdirect + Glyph.
First things first.
Cower
no longer reduces threat. it reduces damage taken. It's a god send for tanking.
Secondly. When you're questing and you're pulling off your pet, give it a few seconds before you attack. If you're BM, you should be able to launch right in with a Kill Command and a growl and be good to go, since Kill Command is pet damage (i.e. Pet threat). If you're SV or MM, you may need to wait a few seconds before you go balls to the walls with dps. Tenacity pets are made for tanking, but threat still matters while leveling. You probably aren't hit capped while leveling, meaning that your pet isn't either. Not only will he miss, but he'll be dodged and parried since Hunter hit = pet hit and pet expertise.
I dont know what level you are, but of coure you'll want to spec into the Guard Dog pet talent. It increases his threat from growl by 20% at rank two. This is a sizable increase.
So basically, if you're BM, give your pet time to growl / Kill Command before you launch in and you should be good. If you're MM or SV, give him a few seconds. You may even need to wait until he cant get a second growl off on the mob.
P.S. Also, a very, very good thing to learn early is to slow / stop your dps if you're about to surpass your tank in threat. Is it annoying to have to do this? Yes. but it's better than having to kite a mob around or being smashed in the face.

As a reply to Gadgetmoss, I am about to go get a turtle (Ghamoo-ra, since his new graphic is sweet), as I am BM (have been the whole time, but was using a bear), and the worm will be three levels away from me (I believe, whatever the gap is between a low level newly tamed pet and the hunter), and I am currently 72, so I think he will be 69 upon taming. Therefore, I am also not too far away from MD, so I'll look into the glyph.
I know that Kill Command is supposed to increase the pet's threat, but for some reason it seems to show it increasing my own... maybe I'm just seeing it wrong or for a different ability or an auto-shot crit or something, I don't know.
Anyways, thanks for the comments, they were very insightful and helpful, and I will definitely give them a try!

Were you having issues with the worm? If so the answer is because or its special ability.
Turtles/Beetles are nice for tanking pets specially if your soloing elite's. They have the same ability.
Also for the pet aggro issues were you letting your pet attack first or were you pulling?

I am glad someone else posted this first. On my 66 Hunter with Gorilla pet, I have the same issues. With growl on, send in pet first, then attack, I'm always pulling aggro off the Gorilla. Back a few months ago (before Patch and Cata), I couldn't pull mobs off that Gorilla no matter how hard I dps'ed.
I should mention that I'm MM spec. I haven't gone through and redone what use to be my BM spec. It's good to know about that Cower though. I had that removed from the pets "hot bar".

Were you having issues with the worm?
Sorry, meant to say turtle. I was going to get a worm but in the middle of my post I decided I wanted a turtle since I remembered Ghamoo-ra's new skin, and Gadget mentioned getting a turtle for Elite soloing, which is mostly what I'm having trouble with.
Also after looking at a worm I wasn't too sure I wanted one. Their special is an AoE which, to me, isn't a big help when soloing one mob.
And I usually send my pet in first, though sometimes I pull with Serpent Sting... either way the mob usually comes straight to me, but I haven't tried any of the tips posted here yet, so maybe that will change.

Go for Ghamoo-ra, it's a beauty!

I'll definitely try to keep those things in mind Gadgetmoss and Cialbi, thanks! :) And yes, matheus, I did get Ghamoo-ra and I'm loving him haha.
Edit: thanks to the tips on here, I just soloed Alystros (which in my opinion is one of the harder elites to solo at that level range, I'm 73) without any threat problems (except when I used Distracting Shot a few times to give my pet a couple extra seconds to heal/get his Cower/Shell Shield cooldowns reset). Thanks a bunch for the tips :D
