Hello
Atm i am 82, and I am still not sure if I should be using FB or FFB when I am frost specced. I used pure FB, except for the brain freeze procs, as I have a glyph that increases crit by 5%, and the cast time is slower on FB, but after realizing that the mob was slowed until i dies anyway, I now switched to opening with a FB, and then doing FFB. However, I am unsure if this is correct.
What bolt do you guys use for a frost mage? For solo? for instancing?

I still get the benefit from both of them, by simply opening with a FB, if im not mistaken. The mana regen doesnt stack, anyway, and the reduction of cast time has CD as well.

Its hardly a necessity, but if you spec into
Frostfire Orb
, Frostfire Bolt gets a better chill effect than frostbolt (as long as you dont use the frostfire bolt glyph), I like to use it as an opener in solo pve, but its purely frostbolt in groups or instances
It's actually a necessity in a frost spec, but not for the reason you said though. The reason we take this talent is so that our Frostfire Orb has a huge chance to proc both Brain Freeze and FoF.
Also, Frostfire bolt glyph is kinda necessary, which does reduce the chill effect to 0.
