Hello all.
Been super busy with tanking these new heroics (amazingly fun) and getting all the reps up, as well as JC and blacksmithing skill, fishing, cooking, digging in the dirt! Wow there is a lot of stuff to do!
I have finally gotten around to making what I believe to be the best gear you can get outside of raiding!
I love Theck over at the Main tankadin site, and have been over to his BIS pre-raid gear set. I think that he picked his set a bit too heavy into mastery. He even admits that the hit and expertise stats are dangerously low. Master is amazing yes, but reforging can get us mastery too! So I did a bunch of wowhead comparisons and picked items that had more overall stat points.
Here (
Pre-raid set: Heroics) is what I put together. Reforging is key. On every piece that doesn't have mastery, your going to reforge for mastery. On every piece that has mastery your going to reforge for Parry, since dodge is already way higher than parry, and you want to keep dodge and parry at around the same levels with dodge no more than 1% higher than your parry.
I don't consider myself to know everything there is to know about paladin tanking and paladin stats. I'm still learning a lot about the cata changes. BUT, I do believe I am in the higher up levels of paladin tanking skill and knowledge.
That being said, take a look, ask questions, debate me on gear choices.
Cheers,
Hat
P.S. Cata heroics are AMAZING! Might be writing something up sooner or later.

I'm curious how you came up with this list?
Or did you just take the highest ilvl for each slot available?
This is the filter I use to find items. I pick a slot and then I scroll through the items and see which ones come from raids, and other craft-able options. Some times the choice is clear, other times I pick a couple and do a comparison using the compare tool.
Your set could be upgraded with stuff from valor point quartermasters, for ex.
these glovesAvailable already after a tad over 3 weeks of doing your daily heroics LOL^
Ya, I ignored the purchasable valor point stuff, mostly because like you said; "lol 3 week upgrade" Once you have enough valor points from doing heroics, your looking at picking an upgrade that will give you the most stats for points, and that might be something like a chest piece or a helmet.

For neck i'd go with
The Lustrous Eye, unless you already got lucky with
http://www.wowhead.com/item=56411. But even then when I had nothing else to spend JP on i'd still get the eye.
Same deal with Phosphorescent Ring, id go
Felsen's Ring of Resolve unless youre an exp wh0re, and there is nothing wrong with that.
I'm leaning tword the starter-raid logic of defense rather than threat. Unless your guild already knows whats going on and you have no big issues staying alive mitigation/avoidance>TPS,and for most people entering a 10man right now thats going to be the case.
In the case of the chest, people generally are not going to want to pay 6-8K for something that gives them roughly the same survivability as
http://www.wowhead.com/item=58101. You basically buy the expertise for that several thousand gold, and typically in progression, DPS is not going to be going all out, so youre not going to have aggro issues meaning you basically buy it to look good with hawt prof. plums.

Yup totally valid. It kinda goes along with the "this is the best you can get, but know what is an upgrade when you see it." Some of these items will take some time to drop for you, others take time from crafting. In that time, your going to be making JP points like crazy and not have anything to do with them. Go buy a chest, go buy a neck, get anything you can while you try and work your way to these.
