I'd like to hear your opinion about tanking with a caster weapon on WoG Protection build. Look at the Blade of the Burning Sun from HoO HC: 1729 SP, 129 INT and secondary stats reforgeable to tanking ones.

Initial theorycrafting showed Spellcasting weapons to be creeping up on normal tank weapons, especially for certain builds, but once they nerfed the weapon DPS on Caster weapons, it went down the &*!@ter. (For this reason specifically, actually...along with Enhancement shamans.)

As Varaconn said, caster weapons have much lower DPS.
Never ever ever
use one when tanking. Especially if the Blade of the Burning Sun that drops for you inexplicably has 41.7 DPS instead of what it's supposed to have.

You can actually see the "caster weapon nerf" in effect on Holy Paladins. A Holy Paladin will spend minutes beating up an random world trash monster even with Holy damage from seals and judgments or you could finish it off in quickly by using Exorcism. No Prot Paladin should be using something like "Blade of the Burning Sun" for threat generation because that weapon is pathetic for melee damage.

Gurgthock's Garish Gorebat
?
Abnormally large amount of damage for a caster weapon. Just a random thought.
EDIT: Wowhead tooltip is wrong. Damage ingame is 406 - 755

Crusader strike hitting for 350 as a Holy Paladin is quite underwhelming, but the free Holy Power I get is definitely not bad :)

Wowhead is probably right. You probably have an old version of the tooltip in-game, which would be fixed by clearing your WTF folder.
