Protection or Retribution for levelling?

I've made a Paladin, and I've heard that Protection should be superior to Retribution when levelling. I just want to know why, and if so, when (levelwise)?

Protection definitely. I hear there are less packs of mobs in Northrend though, so it might be worth switching then.
If you use your abilities, you're unkillable. I can pull groups of 10 mobs and come out 100%/100%. Just soloed Durn The Hungerer 10 minutes ago and came out with 90%/100%.
Choose prot.

Prot is by far the easiest spec to level, perhaps the easiest spec in the game IMO. You do decent damage, and are virtually unkillable unless you really screw up. You also have the nice advantage of near instant que times for randoms. That being said...
If your intention is to be DPS at 85, I would suggest at least dual speccing into Ret, and learing the playstyle while leveling rather than trying to change it at 85. Prot and Ret have very different styles of play, with Prot having a fairly set rotation, and Ret having almost no rotation at all.
From my perspective, switching from Prot to Ret after playing Prot for quite a long time, has been....well...painfull to say the least.

Both.
Ret: Non AoEable quests
Prot: Fast instance ques for easy blues.
Gear doesnt matter as much anymore >80 instances. Slap on a 1h and shield in ret gear and you will be fine at LEAST up to 60. After that you might want to at least try and find some dodge/parry if you want to tank, but its still not that big a deal. By the time you want to do 80 instances you have OP cata greens to put on.

I think that might have been a greater than/less than fail, Quest.

I've been leveling as protection spec and it's awesome, nearly automatic spots in instance groups and if I do bother questing, I've easily able to aoe stuff to death without taking much damage at all.

Nevermind the insta-dungeon group...
Vasj'ir had some insane respawn... not sure if it still has. Those $%^&ing giblins (?) kept respawning. I was sitting in one !@#$ing place, for 30 minutes, having at least 3 mobs on me, and max 5, at all time. I was wondering how long I could keep going, and nothing happened at all. I lost maybe... 10 % hp, and then I tossed a Word of Glory for the lulz, and kept on smashing skulls with AS and SotR, with HotR as a filler. I ended up running away, getting kinda bored about the lack of change. Nothing can kill you, and stuff dies fairly quickly. Granted, I don't kill as fast as my Boomkin friend, but I come close. Ret is fine, I guess, but they don't have the same ability to survive stuff that Prot has. They have the Pursuit of Justice talent as their advantage - quicker movement is awesome :P
Having leveled a prot, I too can vouch for the facerolling that Prots can do. Elite-quests...? I accidentially killed an elite in Hyjal at level 81, and I didn't even notice it was, until it was dead. No heals, and I still had 80 % hp left >_>
As a prot, you cannot solo anything. You faceroll
everything

I leveled my pally prot all the way, but, if I were to go back, I might have switched to Ret for Uldum and Twilight highlands. Maybe this is the case for DPS even, but I found myself having to reduce the number of mobs I was pulling, and was taking quite a while killing single-target.

You can't beat Protection for leveling now. Questing, even on 3-man elite quests, is a breeze. PvP in the most brackets are fun and competetive, though Mages can get more and more frustrating (just makes killing them more satisfying). And insta queues for dungeons is just icing on the cake. Can't really go wrong with Prot right now.

I though of going ret for a change (and since I actually had weapon and equipment), but i went out to Hyjal just to get initial grasp of Cataclysm, and never came back to respec. Even less so when I farmed one annoying shammy by shrine of Goldrinn after he killed me may be two times.
Prot is the way to victory.
