Altairus and Soul Fire

I was wondering whether spamming Soul Fire, while downwind of Altairus would generate a net increase or a net loss in DPS? My current cast time for SF while downwind is about 1.8s, and everything else (i.e. Incinerate, Chaos Bolt, Immolate) is around/below 1.1s.

upwind is the good one. (the wind animation should be flowing from you toward the boss)
the buff is 100% cast speed meaning that you're halving your cast times. since incinerate with backdraft and iSF is already around 1-1.1seconds, halving that means you're all over the minimum GCD.
SF is ripe for spammage!
since the buff specifies "cast speed" (and not haste) i
think
that means that it won't give your immolate more ticks but you should try to recast immolates with the buff until someone can confirm that. keep using immo and conflag but you can probably drop corruption.

Well the easiest way is to highlight the debuff and see if it changes.
Another way to analyze the winds.
"Upwind" means you're blocking the boss with the wind, meaning you get a fresh breeze.
"Downwind" means you are blocked by the boss from the wind, and therefore lose cast speed because the boss smells and the wind blows the boss's smelliness to you.
E: No, I don't think spamming Soulfire is a good idea. Just do your normal rotation.

i disagree but i don't have much more than educated guess work to go on.
i haven't done that fight often on my lock (i have 4 85s now though my lock is best geared/most played) but when i have done it as soon as i saw my incinerate clipping the minimum GCD i switched to SF spam.
in reality spamming SF as filler isn't a massive DPS loss (due to the mana return from soul leech) anyway so casting a filler nuke that should be less than 1 second long but is constrained to 1 second feels like a greater loss to me.

Well that honestly depends I think.
Also have to keep in mind if DoTs do scale with the buff, then it is at least optimal to do Immolate + Conflag (think about why for a moment =D).
I'll probably have to check this myself at some point, but since I play Affliction...
Hm, Incinerate looks like it would be JUST below 1 second (without Backdraft).

i'm absoutely not saying that immo and conflag should be dropped. if the buff doesn't increase dot ticks then corruption will easily get pushed below whatever filler you use for DPET but the rest of the rotation should certainly stay.

Oh I see. Misunderstood, I guess.
