I'm thinking there should be a way to convert fragments...I realize that makes 0 sense lore-wise but from a gameplay outlook it would "fix" it if you could convert the currency. It would need to be a pretty steep conversion to keep it from messing up the way arch works but it would be nice to keep someone from having, like you, thousands of fragments they can't do a thing with. I also agree that they need to make them useful for something once all things have been discovered, such as a BoA potion or even conversion to another currency like cooking tokens, honor, or jp in extreme amounts (meaning that you couldnt farm gear through arch alone without it taking insane amounts of digging but that they could be put to a tiny bit of use.)
Another conversion idea would be even a "new" currency type that could be turned in for reputation with any faction, or any home city faction, or just cataclysm only factions. Regardless they need to come up with something imho :)

Make a museum curator for each faction that you can donate fragments to and each month add a big show piece to the winning faction's museum and a smaller prize for the losing faction (per server). Maybe even theme the rewards based on the types of fragments donated. I would expand the idea if I thought it was going to be implemented.
A server wide effort, been waiting for something like this since AQ, yes please! I think this would be a great idea, although the amount of fragments that would be donated would be very high I think so the result would have to be very impressive.

I would like an NPC to turn in fragments to get keystones. They would have to add a fossil one.
Make it a steep conversion, 36 or 48 fragments for a keystone or something like that. That would drop the prices on keystones, but you would at least make a little gold with the profession.

I don't know so much about fragments, what kinda bugs me is that we assemble these invaluable historical pieces. Ancient Troll pottery, pristine fossils, Night Elf jewelry. And then we... sell them to a merchant for a few silver?
As any of us who watch movies probably know, "it belongs in a museum!"
I think they should add two factions to the game: The Explorer's League and The Reliquary.
Faction rewards from them would be either cosmetic (mounts, tabards, etc) or only useful for crafting (maybe something like an "Archaeologist's Fetching Fedora" that reduces the cooldown on surveying by 1s, and similar types of things for fishing, first aid, cooking, etc) maybe toss in some food or other "disposable" things to purchase with them. To make it an ongoing thing instead of just delaying the inevitable.
Turn in fragments on a 1-1 basis for currency, relics for more than they're worth in fragments.
Voila, instant long term usefulness for archaeology. :)

I was after the
mount recipe
when I decided to stop digging like a mad chiken. It takes way too much time, unless you're *super* lucky to get a
Canopic Jar
as your first-second artifact (of course the jar must contain the recipe, so you need even more luck). If not, be prepared to fly around the old for a *lot* of time.
After my 4th Tol'Vir artifact I got a
rare
that needs 150 fragments, so I just stopped to dig (I just play 1 toon and I don't need any BOA item). Tol'Vir can be digged in Uldum only... and having to run around waiting for the Uldum dig site is just annoying as hell.
I hope Blizz will add more Tol'Vir dig sites somewhere. Until then.. I'm done.

And Blizzard comes to the "rescue" in the latest patchnotes:
Archaeology
* Archaeology fragments now have a hard cap of 200 per race. Players will not be able to collect additional fragments until they complete artifacts to take them down below 200 fragments. Players with more than 200 fragments will not lose additional fragments in 4.0.6, but in a future patch we may remove any fragments above 200.

I love the idea of a museum. Not only would a server be able to contribute vast amounts of unneeded fragments to a HUGE project, but every project completed could net some sort of boon to the faction that completes it. It'd also give Garrosh a chance to say, "In your FACE, Variann! The Horde has beaten you this day.(Etc.)" And vice versa. Question is, where would the museum be? I guess we could put in Orgrimmar and Stormwind, with a portal between the two...
Put it in Gadgetzan or Booty Bay, or some new Steamweedle run facility. The reason both sides can contribute is because it's run by a neutral faction. (who of course charge hefty fees to tourists and scholars to peruse the materials stored therein :) )

Not being able to collect doesn't necessarily mean that nodes will not continue to spawn. Can anyone confirm if nodes will still spawn for races if you are capped at the 200?

I like our ideas better than blizz's :/

Well, I'll deliberately cap them when searching for Tol'vir Digsites and see what happens.

The cap is fine, if there's something we can do to prevent being capped. Like converting the fragments to another type, or not having any new nodes of races we are capped with.
Just capping it does no good.
I like a lot of the suggestions posted here. Wish we could get Blizzard to listen.

Haha Blizzard actually found a way to make it worse :)
I want a big gnome statue of myself, constructed from all my findings. It stands over the entrance of Stormwind. If you ever /spat on a gnome or made bad remarks this statue will kick your butt all the way to Karazhan.

I have an excelent idea what to do with this problem! Its the convert system from Guild Wars. Now now stop yelling your nonsenses how WoW than GW, its not the point.
All we need is an NPC (explorer league or reliquiary representative) who would take a certain ammount of fragments of one race and gave you your desired ones in some ratio.
For example changing basic fragments (fossil, night elf, troll and dwarves) would always be 1:2, basic to uncommon (orc and draenai) 1:5, basic to rare (vrykul and nerubian) 1:10 and basic to epic (tol'vir) 1:30. Of course there would also be other ratios like uncommon to epic or something and it would work both ways with some penalization (so people cant just farm a little of vrykul and turn it in for a lots of night elf).
Imo this would be nice and not-agressive way to make this proffesion a little more pleasant.
