Are Rogues Limited To Just Thrown Weapons Now?

Seeing as how Fan of Knives now uses your thrown weapon, it seems that even though we're able to use Crossbows, Guns & Bows, we're limited to using thrown weapons. Couple this with the fact that as Assassination, you're limited to using Daggers aswell, it really puts a limitation on the amount of drops we can hope for in a Raid or Dungeon.
Sure, we can use Crossbows, Guns & Bows, but that pretty much means nothing, if we have to give up our strongest AoE move (and our ONLY one as Assassination) just for a better "stat stick", being a Crossbow/Gun/Bow.
I wouldn't complain usually, but it seems that Daggers & thrown weapons have pretty much the same drop rate as any other weapon in the game, therefore it's much harder for Rogues to get hold of decent weapons than it is for any other class, who have access to a wide range of weapons.
Yes, we as Rogues ALSO have access to a wide range of weapons, I'm not debating that, but it means nothing if we're actually unable to USE our attacks with that certain weapon.
I don't know, hopefully we will see an improved drop rate or have more Daggers & thrown weapons added to the game, because at the moment it's been hell trying to get hold of new weapons, whereas I'm always seeing Warriors, Death Knights, Druids etc getting a new weapon pretty much every time I do a Raid or Dungeon.

Who else uses daggers endgame? Sure, it might seem like it takes longer for one to drop, but there will be a whole lot less people rolling on it.

we are not limited to thrown. if you need aoe, equip thrown, otherwise get simply the best stat upgrade available.
you can have a green thrown, since most of our aoe is done by poisons.
anyway, the epic thrown drops form bastion trash, and from my limited experience, they drop epics like hell (one raid i've seen 3 drops before halfus, trinket and othe crap but no thrown :( )

I know we're not "technically" limited to thrown, but that's like saying Warriors can benefit from Cloth gear, just because they can use it. Sure, we can use Crossbows, Guns etc, but we can't use FoK if we have it equipped, and considering the amount of times you use AoE in a Raid or Dungeon, it's a bit of a hassle having to constantly switch your gun/bow for a thrown weapon every time you need to use Fan of Knives.

While all three specs got some talent that affects FoK to some degree, i think combat is the only one that would REALLY see the best numbers out of them. Otherwise, with the other two specs which focus more on hitting one target (boss fights you could say here) it could be arguable that better stats on a non-thrown weapon would do better for your boss dps.
Not saying rogues should go out and need on hunter weapons if the hunters need them, but i was seriously considering grabbing an agi bow/gun/crossbow as not many thrown weapons i could use. Luckily the one from Halls dropped ^_^.

You know going into a fight if you need FoK or not.
If you need FoK, use a thrown. If you don't, use whatever your best ranged weapon is.
How is this difficult to understand?

I think the OP means to highlight the issue that no other class has to choose between their ranged weapons - either a stat stick or an AOE. I realise that it's very situational but it
is
something that no other class has to deal with.
On the issue of daggers, I'd have to agree with the OP, I found it quite hard to find good daggers in heroics. I suppose one can be "lucky" and get it on the first kill but some of us aren't so blessed.

I disagree quite strongly with this. By far and away the best spec for sustained AoE burns is Muti. FoK does minimal direct damage no matter the spec, but with the increased poison application rate that Envenom and Vile Poisons gives it's easy to quickly put 5 stacks of DP onto mobs. At that point your numbers will start going through the roof thanks to IP procs.
As for weapon swapping, it's easy to either set up equipment manager sets or even just macro a weapon swap into FoK - the resetting of the swing timer is no real issue as you're probably pooling energy prior to a burn phase anyway.
Moar numbers are more - I seen no reason not to need on any item we can use if it improves our performance, even just situationally.

Does combats precision talent not work for the poison procs on throw weapons? Or the fact that combat can throw more FoKs out than the other two specs? (more times hitting equals more chances to proc hence why a fast off hand with deadly was suggested for the longest time unless thats changed) Nor the fact that combat has INCREASED range weapon damage already? not to mention every 30 seconds FoK can hit more than just one target each "blade flurry". I would hate that for the spec that has the most talent-benefits for the skill would scale lower than other specs.

The standard Muti spec picks up at least 2 points in Precision too, so that's not a Combat specific talent. While Combat has the best passive/active Energy regen from Combat Potency and AR, pooling and Vanish(Overkill) provides plenty for burn phases. The increased OH damage from Ambidexterity just isn't enough to make much of a difference, and Blade Flurry no longer works with FoK, so that puts a serious dent in its direct damage output.
Basicly unless we're talking about Ony whelps/Sindragosa trash numbers of mobs, FoK just isn't that great for Combat.

Plus all of that is massively trumped by Vile Poisons anyway.

One thing i allso find peculiar, is that atm, the only viable OH's for any rogue spec, are daggers. Sure, assassination is the only one the
requires
it, due to
Mutilate
, and subtlety only requires one in MH for
Backstab
. But due to the speed of daggers, both combat and subtlety is sort of requiered to use it aswell, leaving no freedom and variation to the rogue class. Only variation, is that combat can (and should) use other weapons in MH.
That's not "peculiar" at all. It's by design, and it makes perfect sense.

Blizzard has been saying for ages they wanted to make daggers the defining weapon of the Rogues so it doesn't come as a huge surprise. Not sure just how I feel about it yet though - I
liked
my dual axes or sword/axe combos in Wrath... I suppose it's just one of those things we'll soon get used to.
