1. It would be a DPS loss.
2. If your healer needs the help, I suppose it's ok. However, if this is needed, you are either in a damage-intensive phase of a fight or you stood in something you shouldn't have. If it's the former, your healer should be ready and able to handle it. If it's the latter, it would be better to correct your play rather than take a DPS loss.

With Stoneclaw in many situations, I can keep hitting on things, while other melee are running out. So I might not call it a total DPS loss. Quick switch to Stoneclaw and a quick switch back to SoE/Stoneskin. (Depending upon the buffs which others are providing) Being a Healer myself, in my non-Enh spec, I try to make things as easy for them as possible. (I also tend to bodyguard my healers, when in DPS mode)
Plus, it just plain rocks when questing and leveling archaeology at Tol Barad or some other, PvP-intensive place.
I use a glyphed Stoneclaw on myself in Resto, even, because I'd rather spend the points from Ancestral Resolve on something else. Like healing.

When playing as Enhancement there usually comes a time when all my abilities are on cooldown and I don't have a stack of 5MW up. This spare time is perfect to place the Stoneclaw Totem (especially in dungeons and when there is someone else to bring the str/agil buff to the group so you don't really need a different earth totem anyway). Helping out the healers at no cost at all - perfect. With this, an awesome damage reduction cooldown and the self-healing from the wolves the Enhancement Shaman is probably one of the easiest classes to heal.

I've had the Healer ask me why I'm taking so much less damage than the others, after using Stoneclaw and Shamanistic Rage at just the right times. ;-)
And yeah, being a fellow Healer, I can tell you: we appreciate when people make our jobs easier.
Tanks control the fight. Try to keep the damage centered on them, and no one else, if possible.
DPS kill stuff. And help the Tank and Healer handle contingencies. There is zero expectation for DPS to be stupid. The more that DPS are thinking well, the more they are doing good offense, while helping the defensive team (Tanks and Healers) do their jobs better.
Healers clean up the messes. That's their job description. Sometimes, it's very, very frustrating. If the Tank and DPS never took any damage, it would be a very easy time for the Healers. Even, boring. (As ICC got to be, eventually) When people don't give a damn about what they hand to us to compensate for, and make us /oom just trying to save them, we greatly resent their stupidity.

Sad to say that the snakes in the
Temple Guardian Anhuur
encounter do not respond well to Stoneclaw. Nor, do they respond well to the Earth Elemental Totem. And so, Blizzard either designed them to be "untauntable", or there is something wrong.
