they can't remove DRs.
when fear was first introduced there was no DR. since fear can take a little damage before breaking (more back then) you could DoT someone up and literally fear them until they died.
this led to the pervasive idea that warlocks are overpowered which lingered WAY after they added a DR and gave everyone a way to break fear.
DRs HAVE to stay and you don't want to play a game where they don't exist.
Fear now has a PvP duration of 8 seconds.
Ouch ouch ouch. That's us getting hit in the face with the nerf bat.
Seduction (Succubus) now has a PvP duration of 8 seconds
Smack Bash Whack. It just get's worse and worse and worse....
so, why is this not correct?
because EVERYONE's (all classes') CC has had a reduction in PvP duration.
this is a change to PvP mechanics NOT a change to the warlock class.

And that is why you should read ALL patch notes before QQ-ing.
Although I am not sure that every single cc has been changed, cyclone for one isn't included in the patch (or I missed it). Still your point stands of course, the vast majority of cc in pvp will now be 8 seconds.

hehe...yes, they reduced most cc duration to 8 sec, but since the effect is the more important the more a class relies on cc and stuns are not included it is still a disproportinate nerf to warlocks.
(one i dont mind as much as say the coex one...the effectiveness was what made it valuable, not the range, i rather have it at 50% with 20 yards range (25 with glyph) than 30% at 40/45)
Spot on with your comment about DR though.

sure, the actual implications of a change in general PvP ethos to warlocks specifically is something that experienced PvPers should have. as you say, just wanted to point out that it isn't specifically focussed on warlocks.

cyclone for one isn't included in the patch (or I missed it).
The duration changes were for all CC's which last more than 8 seconds. Cyclone only lasts 6 (before DR obviously).

The change to fel armor will pretty much make it usefull in group play only.
While the SP was usefull in PvP and solo play, the main benefit was the health regen.
Looks like we are supposed to use demon armor now.
Still waiting for the mage armor nerf.
I don't think they're taking the SP element away from Fel Armor...

The sentence is in past tense because aff locks will use demon armor now in PvP and solo play, not because i thought they would remove SP from fel armor.
I imagine something like this:
dev1: mage armor is OP and the 50% magic reduction should be changed to 10% more mana.
dev2: ok, done.
dev2: oops, changed fel armor
dev1: nvm
But to be serious, making fel armor into a pve spell and demon armor into a pvp spell is a good idea.
Its just the implementation that is the problem.
Maybe SP and +10 / +20% more SP for talents for fel armor with a basline 2%HP/5sec regen would work.

OK genius warlocks, riddle me this. Does Demonology losing ISF but gaining a buff in mastery feel like it balances out? I've been treating mastery as my worst stat for obvious reasons. It's spikey, often wasted in dungeons if you use it on cooldown, and to get the most from it requires immolation aura which is usually suicide since you'll break CC's and pull aggro from your tank's off-targets.
I'll have to wait for people with better brains than I to simcraft these changes and drip feed me my new stat weightings so I can play with my gear accordingly.
In other news, I'm very pleased we'll no longer have to hard cast soul fire for a haste buff.
I don't know if it balances out, my thought would be
not quite.
And from the sounds of it (and I may be reading your post wrong) but it sounds like you're considering your mastery as just Metamorphosis, and that is not the case. It also applies to your minions' damage.
The thing that I'm interested in is the reduction to Felstorm and the 33% mastery bonus. My inclination is that this nerf to that specific demon ability and that buff all demon abilities possibly balance each other out.

That might not be a concern to most locks here but mage armor reduced to 35% from 50% is a nice aff lock pvp buff if it goes life.

the changes to demolition's mastery and inferno seem to be pretty much covering the loss of iSF (at least preliminary sims put demo in a good place).
personally i'm expecting something still in the queue for affection that will get pushed to PTR at some point... though that same preliminary sim still puts affection above destru without any changes.

You don't use fel armour for the heal in pvp, it was a nice bonus but you use it for the extra output when no one is focusing you and always change to demon armour when you are being focused. (only exceptions perhaps being 2v2 playing with double dps setup and bg's with no healer)
So nothing has really changed in that perspective and with the armours not costing any mana anymore the incentive is even bigger to switch them depending on weither you're being focused or not.
The change only really sucks for solo play and pve(demo and destro mainly) and is rather minimal in pvp (especially for affliction as siphon + haunt is plenty for offsetting life tap)
