First of all, AoEs shouldn't be an issue unless it has some sort of CC effect such as shadowfury. Theyve been nerfed into the ground since before cataclysm.
Affliction, in my personal opinion, is the must fun and has the most potential - even with the recent nerfs to affliction PvP.
As for the curses, it's pretty self-explanatory, no? CoW for melee, tongues for casters...elements if you feel that you can go more offensive.
Additionally, in PvP there are no 'rotations'. Try to get in the habit of being reactive to what your opponent is doing and try to mess with his mind a little. For example, if I'm dueling a mage, ill start off casting immolate so he locks me out of my fire school instead of my shadow one.

I personally have enjoyed Demo talents just because of some of the extra control I can have with hand of guldan's root + AoE stun if they are dumb enough to stay inside the aura (or someone else runs into it..).
The stun from my Felguard is nice to have as an option. Felstorm is a good thing to use for dps burns.
Demo is where I've had the most success so far. Chart leading with honor kills for my epeen status is fun, but it took a while to get to the point where I figured out when to be aggressive or to pull back a bit in a fight.
You can be very successful with any lock talent spec as long as you don't screw it up too much. I just find that demo provides me with a couple more cc options (hand of guldan, felguard stun) that I end up using all the time to establish control in a fight.
Edit: oh yeah, plus using metamorphasis + leap stun is another example of the extra control you can bring to a fight, not to mention the ticking damage from having immo aura running. If you need to stun lock someone and burn them down you can usually sequence a HoGuldan > time Felguard stun if they trinket to keep 'em in the HoG aura > meta form + leap and they'll usually get stuck in the HoG aura proc and get stunned even longer. This whole time you are making sure you're dotting them up and then nuking, plus probably using felstorm to add to the burn down.
