Hi everybody,
I am about to start a new blood elf paladin and was wondering is holy a viable leveling spec? I enjoy healing but wanted to know if I will do decent of enough dps to kill efficiently and will my survivability be high?
Is holy healing a viable healing spec in lower lvl dungeon instances?
Ty,

Holy is viable to level up, but you'll run OOM quite fast before you can get Denounce. If you want to level Holy, I suggest just running trough dungeon. If you want to level trough quest and such, try prot / ret instead, you'll have a much much easier time.
And yes, Holy is a perfectly viable healer in instance.

the summary bonuses for choosing holy tree should be good enough for low-level dungeons. it's more about having enough intellect on your gear at that point. take holy talent talents that buff your dps, like Blazing Light.

Berelain,
You state that Holy does limited damage, and you have to drink alot?
I found that on average 2-3 exocisms per mob to kill, never had to drink, and can take on elites overlevel solo proves otherwise. :D
As far as instances go, unless the tank is subpar (ie takes alot of damage), it is not unusual for me to be 2nd or 3rd in DPS *while* healing.

To be fair, my info is based on levelling 1-60 in vanilla, then the rest by expansion. I remember drinking an awful lot. It may have changed - particularly with the patch 4 spec changes, but even at 85 in full heroic gear holy seriously low damage.
Yes, we are long way from Vanilla now :-)
I was there too...not meant to be a flame
On topic: While you
can
level as Holy, why would you? Unless it it just as an experiment to say you did, there are better options avaliable, as both ret and prot will be faster and easier. With dual-spec now at 30 and only 10g (i think), its just not the best route to take.
My suggestion, spec into prot from the start, but gather gear for both healing and tanking. Dont be afraid to use ANY gear that has intell at low levels, even cloth. You can easily heal low level dungeons in prot spec with the correct gear. At 30, dual-spec into Holy and use that spec for dungeons.
I found that both prot and holy at low levels have great survivbilty, but the difference is prot's is more passive while holy is more active. And honestly, neither one does fast damage, both ways are usually going to be a slow grind down of the mobs. If you wanna kill stuff fast, go Ret, but expect some corpse runs.

Holy leveling
is viable, though I think
Protection
is better overall. I would main spec into your choice and then dual spec into the other. I think this gives a better understanding of the tank/healer relationship when you play both.
