Solution: Stop targetting CC'ed mobs.

Yeah, you should never have to target the mob you are trapping. At least not in PVE.

And what about
Wyvern Sting
?

I've never had a problem with Wyvern Sting either. I just use it and then immediately strafe and hit ESC to cancel target.

I usually just assist off my focus target (the tank) and that usually negates the issue...
And if he happens to target the CC'd mob, then he or she is more likely to break the CC than I am.
I don't ever break my own traps. I instead take great caution to outrange the target or do the above. This is because the Freezing Trap cooldown is too long to have any chance of refreshing partway through. Wyvern Sting is a good way to keep the target CC'd if it happens to break early. Then, after that wears off, kite it and use Scatter Shot then follow up with another Freezing Trap after it wears off.
Solution: Try to outrange the frozen target or attack the tank's target and avoid the use of tab targeting due to the stupid "autoattack continues" bug.
What Blizzard needs to do: Either a. Make Freezing Trap break after a threshold of damage. b. Remove the cooldown on Freezing Trap. and/or c. Fix the stupid autoshot bug.
One more thing:
Try Scatter Shot + Trap. Your autoattack disables when you do that.

I've seen a few guildies cast a FT then ruin it with an errant auto-shot straight away. Probably best not to target the mob that you are going to trap, and perhaps have a /stopattack macro as above just in case.

I use mouse over the target then wyvern sting it from the macros. It same as rogue's Blind macros for the mouse over.

a couple of general suggestions (not necessarily applicable to the OP's specific problem):
don't use the glyph of freezing trap - retrapping breaks the trap.
put in
all
your shot macros:
eg.
/cast arcane shot
this prevents pressing shot buttons from finding a target and starting to attack (if your current target dies etc.). they will only fire the shot and start auto-attacking if you have a target selected.
the interface option already mentioned to switch off auto shot.
turn your character almost perpendicular to the current targets.
you can shoot anything in the 180 degree arc in front of your character but these targeting bugs only occur in a much narrower arc.
wyvern sting should switch off auto shot but defensive pets still attack them.
/cast wyvern sting
/petfollow
will prevent it. (and as mentioned above if you do have problems with auto shot and wyvern you can add /stopattack)

Now that Auto Shot can be used while moving, this have to be taken even more carefully.

if that's your experience then that's great but it's certainly not what a lot of other people are seeing.
personally, if my pet is on defensive and i use wyvern sting straight out of the spellbook my pet will attack it 100% of the time.

My pet on defensive doesn't attack wyvern or frozen targets too. Only after the effect ends.

ah yes, i see!
just tested it and the pet goes and stands next to the stung mob but doesn't attack. i saw my pet run after a mob i CCd and made a macro quick ^_^
