I have never had this problem, but I would recommend that you try reinstalling the Wowhead client.

The above suggestion is a good one, I'd suggest putting it in a different location from where you put it last time.

Same problem here on XP Pro SP3. After the WoWHead client finishes uploading data, I get a popup that says something to the effect that I've had an abnormal termination.
The data does seem to be getting uploaded, though.

I found a mention of this issue in the
Known Issues
thread. Apparently this is a known problem if you are running certain antivirus programs, specifically AVG and Kaspersky.
I am running Kaspersky. I tried turning off Kaspersky, and also running the WoWHead client from a different partition, but the client still crashes after doing the upload.
Hopefully the WoWHead developers will be able to find a fix soon. This is the only program I have which has this problem.

Yes, we are looking into this. It's not proving easy to track down sadly. I'll try to keep everyone updated if there's anything important to report.

Hey folks,
I'm looking into this issue. Scanning through the code, I'm at a little of a loss as to exactly what's blowing up.
If any of your are
technically-enabled
, I sure could use a crash dump of the application.
Below follows techno-babble:
Install procdump.exe from:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx
Make sure the program is in your PATH environment variable - so we can execute it from the command-prompt.
Start Wowhead_Client.exe. Just let the client sit there - don't upload, yet.
Open a command-prompt. After ensuring procdump.exe is in your path, run the following:
C:\procdump.exe -t -e -mp Wowhead_Client.exe
That will put some spew on your command-prompt and then sit there, watching for Wowhead_Client.exe to crash.
Now hit the 'upload' button in Wowhead_Client.exe. If it crashes, procdump.exe will produce a file called (something like): C:\Wowhead_Client_NNNN_NNNN.dmp where the 'NNNN' are (date_time) digits.
Compress the .dmp file (.zip, .7z, .rar, whatever) and email it to me shon@wowhead.com - should be less the 1MB compressed.
I'll be debugging this in Win7 x64 - I'm pretty sure that procdump.exe command-line will produce what I need to look at the dump.
Let me know if there are any questions/clarifications with these instructions! :)
Thanks,
Shon

Thanks so much for the crash dumps, folks.
One problem I've discovered - it appears that we haven't been producing the required symbol files for our release versions of the client. I can see from the dump where the crash is occurring. But, without the symbol file, there's no way to link that information back to a function call in our source code. :(
Action items from the investigation so far:
I'm updating our project to produce the symbol file for our release builds. This will ensure that we can use this crash dump trick to track down these types of bugs in the future.
I'm keeping the bug ticket for this issue open and on my list of things-what-gotta-be-done.
When we release the next version of the client, if I don't happen to 'accidentally' fix this issue, we can try crash dumps again and see if we get some magic.
Thanks again for those of you who sent me data - it was really educational! (I've only used crash dumps on video game consoles in the past, so figuring out how to use them on Windows has been informative.) :)
Thanks,
Shon
