Day 12
I awoke today. I think I’m still sane, but after the last few days I can’t be sure. I noted something different as I partook of my daily ritual of staking another house to sleep in. I spied something coming from the Northern Bridge. Curious, I slipped over to the area, and noticed that they were Scarlet Crusaders. I was intrigued, but I wasn’t ready to risk exposing myself to them, especially after having lived here for the best part of two weeks.
However, the Crusaders didn’t care much for stealth. I was curious enough to slip in during the inevitable fight between the Scourge and the Crusaders. For once, the Scourge paid no attention to me. I stole a map of Andorhol, a copy of the Crusaders’ plan, and a pack with enough food and water to keep my alive for another three weeks, at least. I was overjoyed, and quickly retired to a new house during the distraction.
I went to the house I stayed in that had supplied on the top floor, and I quickly went about taking them out back. After determining that they were still fighting, I created a small fire and cooked the meat, hopefully burning out any remnants of the Plague and extending my rations.
I then buried the fire to disguise any remains and journeyed to another house on the north end of town. Hopefully this will throw the Scourge off, as I have been avoiding the north end for as long as I’ve stayed. I’d like to be near the south end if something goes right for a change.
Day 13: I awoke to no changes. I felt tired, so I slept again. I awoke to write this. I feel sleepy, so I think I’ll sleep again.
The rest of the page is unintelligible.Khaz woke up and immediately went still, moving only his eyes. He decided that the area seemed safe, and sat up slowly, unsheathing his sword as was his custom. Breaking his fast on some rations, dried bread and salted pork, he quickly made a pass over of his area. It was secure, for now.
He felt better than he had for awhile, and had just decided to stake out a new house, when he heard something.
Something unusual.
Something he hadn’t heard for weeks.
The stomping of iron shod feet on stone. Standing, Khaz crept toward the sound, and peered over the edge of a low wall. There, walking parallel to his position, were thirty Scarlet Crusaders.
Khaz immediately dropped back behind the wall and crept even further behind it, putting it between him and them.
Scarlet Crusaders? What madness is this? Khaz thought wildly. He heard a shout, and for one horrible moment his heart stopped.
They’ve found me. was all the thought.
Lifting his sword, he stood, ready to defend to the last, when he heard the sickening sound of metal through flesh. Peering around the wall cautiously, he saw a large party, at least three score Scourge, attack the Crusaders.
One Crusader, a woman with blonde hair, fell immediately. The fighting moved away from her slightly, and Khaz darted forward. A Crusader saw him and shouted, but it was cut off as Khaz’s sword slid across his belly. The Crusader screamed and collapsed.
Khaz paid him no heed and moved forward to the other fallen Crusader. One thing intrigued him more than the others.
She wore a pack.
Quickly, he grabbed the pack, and on a hunch, he rifled through her pockets, and came up with a piece of folded parchment. Taking his new treasures, he fled to the two story house with the meat he had been at before.
Nobody had followed him. Khaz quickly entered and went to the top floor, and grabbed several boxes of meat. Taking them down, he then hauled out several chairs, and with a little powder and a match, he lit them on fire.
He grabbed the meat and began frantically cooking it. After going through three boxes, he buried the fire and quickly moved as fast as he dared. Coming upon a one story house, he entered, and journeyed to the basement. He slowly and cautiously ate some of the meat he had found.
It tasted good. Very good. Contented, he fell asleep.
Khaz awoke the next day. Checking that nothing was wrong, Khaz moved back to the top floor and checked the time. It was afternoon the next day. Khaz yawned and went back to the basement. Feeling somewhat odd, he passed out again…
