The effects of DSP pulling for you will likely never change. Having initial threat is a key component a clean pull. You will have one AoE Taunt every 3 mins (Challenging Shout) and T-Clap as your best tools for snagging up stray MoBs.
It is not easy, and you have to be mean sometimes in order to force the DPS to give you control. It is often said, and often done, that should you let the offending DPS die when they Pull. Just keep the Healer alive, that's just good form.
The only sure way to solve the problem is to leave the MoBs you have before the last one is dead, and move on to the next group while the DPS are distracted. I'm not sure, with the new class mechanics, if this is still a viable option. I do it only rarely, and with full disclosure to the Healer.
The last bit of advice I have is to: get the healer on your side and have him/her back you up in chat. Healers scare the crap out of ornery Deeps. Good Luck.

Not sure what level you are currently at?
Nothing you can do about bad DPS... aske them to wait (never works) get the healer on side and let them die, often works.
If they pull, back up and charge (if your not already in combat).
Blood and thunder helps a great deal lower level with threat on multiple targets. Always start with a rend, then thunderclap. I tend not so spam taunt for stupid people, save it for the healer r when its truely needed (yes a dead stupid DPS is a good stupid DPS)
Spec warbringer as soon as possible, this adds an amazing amount of movability.
Mostly what Uricidea said: move onto the next group while the DPS are still amused with finishing off the last mob or two - this works fanatastic as you get that valuable initial aggro and plenty of rage to use.
goodluck.

Blood and Thunder
is your friend. Rush into the mobs,
Rend
1 mob + gather them a little better +
T-Clap
(1 T-clap takes aggro away from hasty dpser for me). I'm level 60 and don't even have
Challenging Shout
on my action bars. Never had any need for it. Use
Retribution Aura
over
Devotion Aura
for some extra threat.
Remember to use
Demoralizing Shout
.("This does about 131 threat divided between all targets") Take the glyph for longer range if you feel you need it.
Cleave
+tab+cleave+tab on big pulls :) (And don't forget to
Revenge
when it proc and
Shield slam
between the cleaves)

Better have a tool handy and not need it, than need it and don't have it. Where you are it might not make a difference, but when it makes a difference, it's the possible difference between wiping and getting a successful kill (including possible loot). Nobody likes wipes. Ever.
But at level 60 nothing is balanced, don't get used to it, it will change as you get higher.
@pikeyboy: Try to stay ahead of the dps, but not so far ahead that you LoS your healer (at least for too long). Leading the group by being first to the mobs helps, and making sure the dps don't run of in front of you. But hey, how often does a random dps listen? He may not even speak (insert preferable language here). I don't know how many times I've asked for a CC just to have someone just stand there, like nothing happened and nothing will happen for the next 20 minutes. Then i see the Guild name and it's like it's written with alien letters. Fun times.

Rather, use Warrior talents over Pally talents at all costs.

You clearly didnt read. He already uses those.
To the op. Try addons.
Tidyplates
and
threatplates
.
Perhaps it was you that did not clearly read?
I generally charge, tab through the mobs using sunder, rend, then thunderclap & cleave, tossing in heroic strikes etc as rage permits.
There's a vaste difference between starting with a rend then TC, to spamming some sunder armors on mobs first. Tanking here is not the problem, its stupid DPS.

If I'm faced with a whole chaos of mobs (half of whom are behind me, thus invisible) how can I round them up quickly?
No-one has addressed this important point. Firstly, you are zoomed in to far if you can't see behind you, zoom out so you can see all the mobs and your group and keep an eye on things.
You should
never
have mobs hitting you from behind - you cannot block from behind, so you will take more damage. If you have mobs all around you, just walk backwards a few steps (don't turn). If you walk far enough, they will all be in a semi-circle around the front of you.
As for levelling rotations, I found that Rend+Thunderclap usually gave me enough of a headstart threat wise from 1-60 (not finished my warrior yet, got a Pally and DK tho)
