You've got a portal to Dark Portal at every mage/portal trainer in every capital city of a race, but to Northrend you still've got to get there by boat, or just spam trade/yell that you need a mage :)

At level 58 as soon as you walk through the Portal, instant flight point to Shattrah.
At level 68 as soon as you land at the harbors in the starting zone, instant flight point to Dalaran.
As for getting there yourself; stop being lazy and just travel, or drop 8k gold for a Dalaran teleport ring, pick up engineering and get the Northrend Teleporter.

Argent Crusader's Tabard
is a good way to get there too.

I still think there should be a portal from SW to dal and Shatt not back just to. This would make it easier to get to said cities

The problem with Shatt and Dalaran is that they are in higher level zones. So when you hit 58, port to Shatt, you can't quest until you go to HFP. Same deal with Dalaran. That would make for strange continuity.
I think having the portals going to starting quest zones makes sense, especially now that those cities are not major stomping grounds. They are just a places to dump trainers so you don't have to head back to SW/Org while leveling.
On another note, why would you ever want to port from SW/Org to Dalaran/Shatt? I can't think of any reason ...unless you don't have a bank alt? Maybe?
Dalaran/Northrend - Fishing Tourney, Oracle Eggs, Tournament mounts & pets, Rare Mobs (hunter wanting pets or anyone wanting TLPD), Kuluak Dailies for pet & pole.
Shatt/Outland - Org Fishing daily (croc pets), Netherwing, Skyguard, Talbuks or Hippogryph, Ravenlord
Both also have other various pursuits one might be working on, regardless plenty of people do have reasons they want to go back to these zones, profession grinding for example. All that said I don't mind taking the zep/hfp ports, but I wouldn't complain if they put a port in either. It seems silly to me that we have portals to every single new leveling zone, some of which are tiny amounts of travel without the port (org - hyjal anyone?) but they can't have a swift way for us to move BACK to old zones...by all means make them openable through a quest or something that requires you to be past the level req of the zone so that new players aren't zoning in where they "shouldn't" be.
Personally I dislike the whole "we have to control where people go...they shouldn't be able to run from shatt to hfp" thing though, as a lowbie on my first character I loved running to new zones which were almost always way too high level for my character at the time...and this was on foot, not on a mount, I was exploring and discovering and it was FUN! It was hilarious to me to see these scary ? mobs and managing to actually run away or snnnneeak past holding my breath the whole time. I've made the run from Shat>HFP when I needed profession training from thrallmar pre-58 (before the portals went in) and it was that same thrill to get past big mobs, don't see any reason why people needed to be guarded against that.

We don't NEED a portal to anywhere, I was responding to the guy who said he couldn't figure out any reason to go to ol/nr and I was simply listing examples of reasons why people go there.

Or going to Mgt to try for the mount takes some time too (Dark Portal -> Shattrath -> Quel'Danas -> Mgt).Or Ironforge/Undercity to the Isle, instant flight.
Seriously though, it doesn't take that long to fly/take the boat/take the portal that already exists. You want bad? Try taking a flight path from EPL to BB in Vanilla; that was bad. Now a days, it's alot easier to get around, especially since you can fly at 60 in Outland and can get CWF at 68 from a trainer.

It's not; you choose the Isle, fly to the gates of Ironforge and your ported to the Island after a loading screen. No need to walk through the Portal, fly across to Shattrah, then walk through that portal.
As for the rest of the comment; drop the gold for Mastery Flying then, you'll get every where even faster.
