Has the game changed that much?

I last played just before WotLK, went on hiatus, and just started back in.
I've been doing the daily pugs for honor, and questing the rest. For the dungeons, I've been finding that half the time it's pretty smooth, and half the time I'm having a hell of a time holding aggro off of DPS. I've tried all sorts of things, from telling them I'm getting back in the groove, to telling them to watch their aggro, to ignoring them.
In response, whenever anyone dies, it's my fault, or I'm a bad tank, etc, etc.
I'm not looking for sympathy, if I screw up, I'm ok fixing it.
I'm just wondering if the game has changed now, or if DPS are still idiots (I always thought that by the time you hit your 60s you should have figured out the basics, even with streamlined levelling).
Am I supposed to fight for threat? Should I be gearing for damage rather than mitigation?

That's what I've heard, but I've had several instances of, well, instancing, where I was really fighting to hold aggro. I'm reasonably well geared, not top of the line, but mostly blues and a few quest greens. I know what skills to use and when (Rend, TC, Shockwave is my opener, followed by shield slams and revenge on the primary and cleave when my rage is maxed), and usually have little difficulty when working single target threat.
It's mostly in group pulls where I'm holding one or two guys just fine, and then there's some dk or rogue blitzing someone who only has peripheral threat.
Healers almost never have a problem (I'm not perfect), and I sure as heck don't die.
Maybe I'll just stop worrying about DPS. It's not like I have to wait to re-queue for a dungeon. :P
