After 4.0.6 affliction might use the imp in PvE (if this info is still correct) and with the felhunter offensive dispell change the imp also gets more interesting for PvP.
My question is: How prone to get oom is the imp? (never played destro)
I will have a couple of leftover talent points in my drain PvE spec and could pick up 2/2 mana feed.

We use imp for the silence
I'm sure this is a typo ...
But I agree, I wouldn't switch the felpuppy with the imp for the world in PvP. Succubus I've been thinking of a few times due to her having a pushback and seduction. But I still prefer an interrupt.
Edit: the demon soul use further tips the balance in favor of the felpuppy ... For PvP in any case, as that's less relevant in PvE.

my remark about pvp should not confuse you, i am aware of the superiority of the felhunter.
however, it becomes weaker after next patch and so the gap decreases. If you fight a for example a mage-heavy group in rated BG the ability to do dmg while rooted or snared + defensive dispel might be valuable enough to justify a change.
(this is something i will do some testing in because i generally dont believe in fixed "this is how to do it" rules in PvP...i also dont see the demon soul of imp as useless, an instant sb and sb sf with high crit chance should be among the best burst you have as affliction)
my question regards PvE only.

your healers will be the first ones who get cc'ed and dispelling them is usefull.
8 to 15 sec cd change is almost 50% less offensive dispel and selfheal for the dog.
the idea to use it more "concious" is right, but 15 sec also provides way more time for trash buffs and good players will adapt to that, so your overall chance of dispelling something good still decreases.

imp mana should be fine.
drain spec takes mana feed yes.
SB specs can't get mana feed so will want to monitor the mana levels but a raid with a couple of replenishments splashing around should make it all fine.

thank you, asa.
this thread is answered, but if you feel the urge to post your view about imp in PvP you are welcome.

There is no "use X pet for Y spec" in PVP anymore afaik. Look over each demons unique abilities and use them accordingly.
Imp - Dispels hostile magic effects on you or a friendly target.
Voidwalker - Puts up a damage shield on yourself. Also helps detect invisibility?
Succubus - Seduction and has a knockback. Be warned though, Seduction shares diminishing returns with fear.
Felhunter - Interrupts enemy spellcasting, and dispels beneficial magic effects on enemy targets.
Felguard - Has a very impressive stun, high damage capabilities and a mortal strike effect.
Might have forgotten something, but generally this is what they do.

thank you. i am quite aware of my minions abilities. i was more interested in your opinion on situations (if any) the abilities of the imp outweight the ones of the felhunter for affliction PvP. (VW consume shadows ability does indeed increase steath detection and is very powerfull if you know how to use it)

This can be relevevant not only to soul link disappearing (I know you can SB resummon)
You normally also take demonic rebirth in the demo tree if you're serious about pvp ... So that's 2 ways of getting your pet back. I always tell my rogue partner to leave the pet since it's useless to try and kill it (except for dks and other heal-through-damage classes)
