So many fear macro's, I'm almost afraid to ask!

At least I know I am not alone....5 topics in the first 3 pages :-)
I hope, at least, my request is different enough that I dont offend anyone for asking for yet another "fear macro". I am hoping for a good "all-in-one" CC / Targeting macro if its possible. So:
1. I would like to cast fear on my focus target and set pet to passive to prevent attacking my feared mob.
2. I would like to then switch my target to the tanks target, and return my pet to defensive.
3. I would like to switch back to #1 if a second fear is needed, and repeat the process.
Any help with the macro is appreciated, and honestly, if you have a better idea, Im open to that as well. I am just looking for something that will simplify switching from a CC target to the tanks target and back again if necessary.
Thanks in advance.

#showtooltip
/focus
/cast
I would suggest using target of target frames and just clicking on your tank's target.

i totally feel your pain here.
as a warlock main who has a hunter alt i find it incredibly frustrating that a hunter pet will run into melee range of a CCd target but wait until the CC is broken before attacking it while a warlock pet belligerently attacks anything you cast any spell on including a CC spell like fear!
it's a much more difficult problem than i expected it to be and this is mostly because pets behave weirdly!
the solution i'm using is still not ideal but i'll explain it anyway and maybe someone here can help refine it further.
firstly all your pets go on passive by default.
the fear macro i use is:
#showtooltip
/focus
/clearfocus ;
/stopmacro ;
/focus
/petpassive
/cast Fear
since your pets are on passive the /petpassive line shouldn't be needed but it helps if your pet got on defensive for any reason and won't hurt if not. this is a basic focus CC macro.
now, we have a new problem. all our pets are on passive and won't attack unless specifically told to do so.
i first tried putting /petpassive in the fear macro and /petdefensive in every other spell i cast but since you're in combat with the feared target your pet will always attack that as soon as it's current target dies which leads to some dodgy moments.
so leave them on passive and put /petattack in all your other spells right?
well that works well for the melee pets but not for the imp. if you spam a macro with /petattack with a felguard it just keep attacking but if you do the same with an imp he tries to recast his firebolt every time you press the button meaning the imp NEVER gets a cast off O.o.
so i use:
#showtooltip Shadow Bolt
/cast firebolt
/petattack
/cast Shadow Bolt
the problem now is that your pets behave slightly differently. melee pets will keep attacking their target once told to attack until told not to, even when on passive.
your imp will cast the firebolt that you just told him to cast then do nothing until told to do so again. this works well for me because i spam my keys anyway but it might not be for everyone. also it requires that really every button you press have this macro in it so you need to go through all your spells and add this macro, changing the spell name of course.
honestly it makes me hopping mad that something so basic has not been addressed by blizzard before now and seriously makes me enjoy my warlock less and less every time it's an issue.
as i said, maybe this will help but also hopefully one of the smart people in this forum will have some ideas for improving the whole process.

As someone who doesn't have a warlock, don't listen to me.

I ALMOST have this one working as I want, but need a bit of help...
#showtooltip
/say Casting Glyphed Fear on: {rt3}%t{rt3}!
/script SetRaidTarget("target", 3);
/cast Fear
It announces that I am casting fear on 'target'
marks target with a diamond, casts fear.
The problem is.. if I am out of range, it basically floods the text area until I hit the target. How can I stop the /say if I am out of range ie notarget?
I'm basically looking for the syntax for "if not target stop macro"
** The /petpassive command works and can be inserted pretty much anywhere ahead of /cast fear but in the latest patch it seems my minion stops attacking if the target is feared.

/stopmacro
Can't check nor act upon OOR condition though.

Note, though, that there's no way to check for 'out of range' and you can target things that are further than you can cast.
So the /stopmacro thing will work fine so long as you don't have a target but if you're running into range of a mob that you have targeted it won't help.
**The problem with pets attacking feared mobs has been fixed since Magician22773 made the thread**
I applaud you looking for a relevant thread in which to put your question but there's now some misleading info in this thread so in a case like this it's totally fine to make a new thread.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##
