Run with your guildies.
If you simply must join a random and you get grouped with a bunch of complete idiots, just drop the group, go do something that usually takes 15 minutes, then enjoy your instant queue once again.

I assume you're marking skull?
Ranged mobs should have prio on CC. That way all un-CC'ed mobs are melee and you can just stay Swipe+Thrash them once they are close enough.
About DPS who don't follow the skull mark: either go "you pull it, you tank it", or just hit the mob with a mangle or lacerate after taunting. Doesn't take to long to grab aggro back.

Also, I don't think it was stated what level the OP is. Without Thrash, it's not quite as smooth.

If the level isn't mentionned, we assume it's max lvl ^_^
But true, it's a horror without it.
Probably the reason why the lightbringer 5mans will keep getting postponed *looks at Thror*

Indeed. We can all sit around and pat ourselves on the back, confident that
we
could handle lowbie tanking just fine, but the sad truth is, Druids are easily the
worst
tanks at low levels.
Warriors and Pallies can literally top the DPS charts (nevermind TPS) with their eyes closed, while Druids can have trouble staying over healing aggro.
I don't understand the Devs motivations right now as they pertain to Feral, but Bear Form is quite simply
broken
until level 36 (
), and then
slightly less
broken
at level 66 (
), and then finally unbroken at level 81 (
Thrash
).
To any up-and-coming Bears: your perseverance is admirable. Pre-Thrash, doing everything
perfectly
will still look sloppy compared to a face-rolling Warrior/Pally/DK. Things get better at level 81 -- stick with it.

They didn't. It's just tooltip updates (AFAIK, unless something changed), the actual damage reduction to your abilities were hotfixed in quite some time ago.

Let me correct you. It is broken all the way until 81. Thrash is huge. Swipe is small. Very, very small. There is a reason for why it is only one letter far from Wipe.

Charge
in,
Demo roar
, keep switching targets and spam your
glyphed
maul
.
Rotate
Swipe
and
Trash
every 3 sec and sometimes
Mangle
instead of Maul inbetween. (Be sure not to aoe the CC'd mob, and pull the others away)
For trash pulls, this should be sufficient to hold aggro, even at endgame heroics, so
Lacerate
and
Pulvarize
are not included. Increased crit chance of Pulvarize gives more
Savage Defense
procs, wich results in less damage taken.
So if you are high enough to use them, feel free to do so.
Ofcourse, how lower level you are, how more spells you have to take out, but this rotation

^while this is the way to go, the amount of effort it takes to keep all the mobs on you is INSANE compared to what any other tank has to do.

I sometimes have fun from this, explaining the basic combat and threat mechanics to them as if they were 5 yo kids or just never played wow before - sounds similar to
this
Yeah... i do have a high tolerance for newbs, and often when doing randoms, it is good to just freeze my emotions in regards to the group, with only limitting the communication to necessary CC instructions.
Also, I don't think a beginning bear can afford skipping Demo roar on any heroic trash pack... uh, even I in my gear spam it pretty much constantly. But using it first is bad indeed. Only pull i can think of where an early Demo roar would be good is the Ghoul packs in Shadowfang Keep... because those have just brutal melee damage. And you can use Thorns to get aggro on them, they have a big attack speed, so they always quite hurt themself against you.

Mark your targets and use every cc available and you should not have to worry about aoe pulls.
That said pre thrash bears do have a lot of trouble just because no other tank requires focus fire (kill the skill first) so dps just are not used to it. And before level 25 when you get the maul glyph, it is just horrendous.
