The version number is 4.0.6, right? And I
know
that, before this patch, the numbers on my lower-left corner of WoW login screen reads "4.0.3"
So what happened to patches 4.0.4 and 4.0.5? Do hotfixes "count"? Actually, I don't remember 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, either (I assume when Cata first came up, it's "4.0.0")
Also, the first time I started the game post-patch, I got a notice saying, "the EULA has changed, blah blah blah". Does anyone ever figured out
what
has changed? I'm not a lawyer, and the long legalese confuses and infuriates me.

4.0.4 and 4.0.5 would be considered internal releases. Software revisions don't necessarily have to be in a continuous sequential order.

They were eaten by patch .0.6.

The EULA change happens after every big patch.

They were eaten by patch .0.6.

Patch numbers are decimal sequencing. That's why we had 1.10 through 1.12 back in the day.

That might make it a little more understandable.

Never underestimate the capacity for human inability to use the search button.

New people join the game, they don't know how patches work nor how to search for these threads...also these threads tend to have names that don't really help themselves be found.

Versioning isn't exclusive to WoW though. Also, who really cares what happened to those "skipped" numbers?
Post by
Sweetscot
No, but those new people probably just haven't seen it...I know I had played some games with it but they didn't use/display/advertise the versioning the way WoW does and I'd never really payed attention to it in other applications..even if you know something IS versioned there's kind of an assumption that it's sequintial. Also I don't think anyone
cares
they are just curious, wth is wrong with being curious? Why is there this thing with WoW boards/community that has to jump all over people when they ask simple curiousity induced questions?
