I made the jump from the ever-so-popular Windows to Linux a couple of months back when I installed Lubuntu (a lightweight version of Ubuntu 10.10) on my laptop. So I can boot into the OS in time less than 4 years. I am considering installing Gentoo on my desktop, since I have a few friends who have been very happy with it. But on the other hand, I hear nice things about a few other distributions - Kubuntu for example.
More out of curiosity though, and less out of need for an advice, what did you choose (assuming you use Linux), and why?(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##

But in time more than 6 miles, of course.

I tend to run xubuntu or kubuntu, with most of the window manager stuff turned off and replaced with a minimal WM that doesn't give me trouble if I want to switch windows. (At least one recent xubuntu, the default WM would display its panel in front of full-screen apps, which was a non-starter.)
Why? Mostly because I find the debian-based package system pretty livable, and ubuntu does a decent job of having all the stuff I want set up vaguely tolerably, but gnome is bloated.

I understand very little about Linux (so far) but I did just change my linux box from xubuntu to ubuntu. About the only thing that pc does is host a minecraft server for me and a few IRL friends, but xubuntu was having too many issues with what I thought should be simple settings.
